Mechanic put a zip tie on instead of the bolt they lost!

By ricky883 on 8/29/2017 at 5:33 PM. Helped by service manager.

I brought my truck her for Toyotas free maintenance for 25,000 miles. They did 20.000 mile service which includes oil change. They have to remove brush guard to get oil filter replaced. They left oil filter loose leaking oil into brush guard and they lost one of the bolts and put a zip tie in to hold brush guard up on a new truck that had 2o,ooo miles.

I would not recommend this dealer.

Customer service worsens AFTER car stolen from their lot

By drdmnto on 8/28/2017 at 1:11 PM. Helped by General manager, service department manager.

AutoNation Toyota Scion Libertyville… where customer satisfaction and loyalty count for nothing! I would BE EXTREMELY CAUTIOUS in having your vehicle serviced here and, likewise, I WILL NEVER purchase another vehicle from this Dealership. Twenty seven days after purchasing a new, never driven, 2013 Toyota Avalon Hybrid from Autonation Toyota Scion Libertyville, we brought the vehicle back to the Dealership for installation of a remote starter installation which was part of the original purchase agreement. At this point, the vehicle had less than 1000 miles on the odometer. The following day my wife was notified that there was a "problem" with the vehicle and that she should contact the Dealer. After contacting the Dealer, we found out that the "problem" was that the Dealer was “unable to locate the vehicle”. Our vehicle had been stolen from the Dealer's lot, a lot in which the Dealer kept its multimillion dollar inventory. We later learned that the Dealer's security measures were grossly inadequate. We were told that they did not have a single security camera on site, either inside their buildings or in their parking lots. In the police report, it actually states that the exact date on which the car was stolen was unknown. In order to pull off the theft, the thief, or thieves, needed direct access to the room, inside the Dealer's building, where their customers' ignition keys were stored. In other words, to steal our car from the Dealer, the thief or thieves had to first steal our keys from the Dealer. How is that for taking “care and custody” of your vehicle! The vehicle was subsequently found by the police 30 miles away from the Dealership in a high crime Chicago neighborhood where, according to the police, stolen vehicles are frequently dumped to be stripped down and sold later for their individual parts. All of our items of personal property, which we left in the car, had been stolen. (The vehicle was subsequently towed back to the police station.) Interestingly enough, when the car was discovered by the police, our own license plates had been replaced with stolen license plates. The stolen plates were held in place with a license plate holder from Schaumburg Toyota and our Libertyville Toyota dealer sticker was replaced with a Schaumburg Toyota sticker, another nearby Toyota dealership. This makes us wonder now if the same thief or group of thieves that stole our car is also active at other Toyota Dealerships. After our car had been recovered by the police, the Dealer could not have pressed harder for us to simply go pick up the vehicle and take possession of it without even a cursory mechanical examination. Basically, their attitude was "What's your problem? Take the car and go home." Amazing! Because our vehicle had been new when it was brought in for the installation of the remote starter, and because we were unable to ascertain how the car was driven by the thief or thieves or what possible damages might be discovered in the future arising from its theft, we requested an exact replacement of the vehicle or return of our purchase price. We were promptly told that Autonation Toyota Libertyville would not agree to do either. We then sought legal counsel and after having spent significant time, effort and money, the Dealer finally agreed to give us $1,000.00 and reimburse us for the cost of our stolen items, but only if we would absolve them of any future legal responsibility arising from the theft of the vehicle, and more importantly, if we would agree not to speak disparagingly of the Dealer or of the events that occurred to our friends, family or social media. In other words, we were offered $1,000.00 HUSH MONEY for our silence! In the end, we walked away from this deal. My wife and I feel that others should hear this story as a warning. People should be able to reasonably expect that their vehicle will be at least somewhat secure when dropped at a dealership for servicing. How many people think that their vehicle in the custody of a dealer is at risk of theft? What would you leave in your car knowing this??? So now, our new automobile has a "stolen but recovered" tag on both our Vehicle Title as well as on a Car Fax report. Each reduces the value of our vehicle. To say that we feel violated, not only by the thief or thieves, but also by the Dealer, is an understatement. We also contacted Toyota Corporation, the manufacturer of our car, to seek compensation for our loss. Toyota Corporation denied all responsibility for the actions of its dealers. Further, Toyota Corporation even stated that it has "no control over their dealers". How convenient! What manufacturer with a strong retail brand image would allow its face to the consumer to be totally uncontrolled in this way??? As a bit of additional information about this Dealer, my family has purchased 5 vehicles from this dealer in the past, and I can tell you that customer satisfaction and loyalty truly mean nothing with "AUTONATION TOYOTA LIBERTYVILLE"” or with the General Manager of this particular Dealer. I would STRONGLY URGE anyone to be extremely wary when having your automobile serviced here. Apparently, in turning over your car keys to them, essentially giving them " Care, Custody and Control" of your vehicle, you cannot reasonably expect your vehicle, or the contents therein, to be safeguarded. Likewise, now every time we drive our new vehicle, we are constantly reminded of how we were treated by this Dealer where CUSTOMER LOYALTY MEANT NOTHING and where CUSTOMER SATISFACTION IS ABSENT ! If you have a similar experience with them, I can assure you that you will NOT be singing, "I love what you do for me Toyota"! There is, however, a good chance that you will be using their other catch phrase," Oh what a feeling!...and what a feeling it is.....INSERT NEGATIVE SENTIMENT HERE !"

I would not recommend this dealer.

Took advantage of 82 year old woman

By Former mechanic on 7/24/2017 at 11:04 PM. Helped by Service manager.

My mother bought her Camry 20 years ago at this dealership and has had it serviced there ever since. Mom's battery died last week and she took it in for repair. The service tech told her the (8 year old) battery was good but her starter was bad. The car has 32K miles and looks like it just came off the showroom floor. $450 later she gets home with her new starter and in the morning it won't start. Same problem as before because it was the battery, not the starter. She took it back in and they charged her $180 for a new battery. Shame on them. Taking advantage of a helpless old woman is sinful.

Sold us a brand new vehicle with a factory defect

By Olena7 on 7/19/2017 at 3:15 PM. Helped by Scott, Lindsey.

Automation Toyota Libertyville sold us a REPAINTED brand new car!! After our first car wash (hand car wash), we noticed a lot of spots on the hood, and near the trunk. We can see the spots just under direct sunlight. So there was no way for us to notice them earlier. Not until we started towel drying and polishing the car. Professional at the nearest car shop inspected the car and proved that its repainted. It has been just three weeks since we bought the car. Returned to the dealership, and all they said was "We don't know." Also sarcastically added that "Toyota paints all of their cars." Yes, paints, but doesn't repaint brand new vehicles and sells them to customers. How could they sell us a repaired brand new car? They "don't know". Why is it repainted? They "don't know". What they can do about it? "Repaint the whole hood." Refused to exchange the car to the exact same one only without defects. Refused to give us discount. Said they can only repaint the whole hood. On the brand new car!!!

Unbelievable Rudeness

By Allen on 5/27/2017 at 3:47 AM. Helped by Lindsey and her sales manager..

I shopped at this dealer with two of my grown kids to serve as sounding on three different occasions in the past when they bought Toyotas from this dealer. The salesman, a former school teacher was great. Unfortunately, he is no longer in car sales So I was referred on the phone to a different sales person, Lindsey. She was pleasant enough, but she turned me over this afternoon to a Sales Manager. I explained to him how are family had purchased three Toyotas from this dealer. I asked him if I came in would they offer the Costco suggested price even though they are not a Costco dealer. He proceeded to get so rude with me and said their dealership never discusses price over the phone. I am fine with the policy, but there was no reason to get so rude I definitely will purchase a new Highlander and definitely from another dealer

I would not recommend this dealer.

Terrible experience.

By Carguy on 3/3/2017 at 1:21 AM. Helped by Manager and Finance Rep.

I have below average credit. However I still qualify for a loan rate in single digits (which I got at another dealer). Lib Toy quoted me a MUCH higher rate. A good finance department would have tried my mortgage company for a loan. I have great credit with them. Instead, they "shotguned" me. This means they sent my credit application to many banks. This is bad for your credit. Also, I was honest with them upfront and told the about my credit before I went there. Because I did this, they would not let me test drive a vehicle. HACKS!

Purchase of RAV4 Hybrid

By Karen59 on 2/18/2017 at 3:42 AM. Helped by Art Fanning.

Toyota is very good at getting the payments where you need them to be so you buy a car from them. I have been a longtime customer and keep buying from them because they have a great service department and great reliable products. The buying experience is usually on the long side but worth it in the end. Since I wanted a hybrid vehicle it was all new to me. Art Fanning, my salesman was excellent at teaching me the features before I left the premises and was very helpful all through the process and afterwards. I love the car and the special financing offered during February only was a great incentive plus get me more car for the money.

I would recommend this dealer.

Worked with Jon Stephens, he greeted me at the door showed me the waiting area while he grabbed the keys and pulled the vehicle up front. The vehicle was as close to what I seen online. I was pleased with the vehicle and Jon's services. So far no wiggle in the pricing no mats!!! Let's wait on the outcome!

Save yourself the hassle and go elsewhere

By CarBuyer on 10/17/2016 at 3:09 PM. Helped by Don.

Price is not the only reason to go to a particular dealership. It is also important how you are treated. And AutoNation Toyota has no clue how to treat customers. They certainly have competitive prices but that is where any positive ends. Went to purchase a vehicle (checkbook in hand) and was treated so poorly that I left even though they had the car I wanted. The next day I went to a different dealer and bought the EXACT SAME car (and they matched the price). I am not looking for "special" treatment but just to not be spoken too as if I am doing them a favor by gracing them with my presence. I have purchased many cars in my life and this is easily the worst customer service experience. So sad that Toyota is being represented by them.

Unapologetic xxxx

By chungkat on 10/4/2016 at 5:50 PM. Helped by Art Fanning.

I wish I had read these reviews before wasting my time at this dealership. I requested an out of the door quote over the phone with Art Fanning. After he emailed me the quote, I asked him to confirm that the quote had used Chicago Sales Tax since I do not live in the area. He confirms that they used Chicago Sales Tax to calculate the quote. I went in the next day to look at the car and finalize the deal and what do you know. The quote that he had provided me was now the "Sales Price" and his manager was going to calculate the out the door price for me. When I brought this up he ignores me and talks over me about the breakdown of the new quote which was over $4,000 higher than the original he sent me. After I get up to leave because I was clearly frustrated, he agrees to have his manager look over the quote again. The quote he comes back is $1,000 less... BUT ALL THEY DID WAS TAKE OFF THE OPTIONAL INSURANCE PACKAGE. Needless to say, I stormed out. They know that they are using shady sales tactics. They don't care. ;TLDR: DO NOT GO TO THIS DEALERSHIP.

Please don't go to these liars-Autonation Toyota

By Leaser229 on 5/14/2016 at 7:45 PM. Helped by All are liars/cheaters.

They will try to get you into buying the vehicle no matter what. They will offer you the best price at first but when you buy the vehicle then the finance silently changes everything without notifying you. I ended paying 4 thousand dollars more than what I was offered. When you call them back to explain the situation then they never pick up the phone nor they will help you with any detail related to the vehicle. Be very careful when dealing with the finance people and managers when signing the deal and understand every detail. I am getting additional bills in the mail on top of my promised payment about the tax they paid etc which I never got from any other dealer in the past.

Buyer Beware Sales Department !!

By Buttons on 3/7/2016 at 4:10 PM. Helped by Yosenia.

When I actually came into this dealership with the intention to purchase a vehicle, the "added" fees to purchase the vehicle such as, "Appearance/Protection Packages/VIN Etching and others I'm not sure about, took away the discount that they had offered to me on the vehicle I was interested in purchasing. AutoNation Toyota also Charges YOU, (the owner trading in your old vehicle) a $250.00 fee to Detail your vehicle in order for them to sell it, as well as another "Service ? fee." If you like to PAY a lot in potential extra dealership fee's, buy your next Toyota here!! I left and bought a 2016 Subaru from another local dealership. After four (4) new Toyota's, Toyota lost me as a customer!!

Finance lies, can't get ahold of anyone, no customer service

By frasnian on 2/8/2016 at 4:46 PM. Helped by DO NOT GO HERE! James Donohue, John Tinault, Deanna in the title department are all horrible.

I'm not even sure where to begin. I leased a car mid December and told them my situation that I was moving to a different state. After waiting 3 hours, finance finally got back to me on what I would owe and said that they'd run everything through their system and let me know within 48 hours if there were any mistakes or changes that needed to be made. Fast forward to Jan 8, I and down in Texas and take a day off work to get my car registered before my temporary plates expire. At the registration location and I was told that I was not given the proper documentation to register my car. The woman there does a courtesy call to AutoNation libertyville to see if she can figure out what's wrong and the woman in Libertyville already knew who I was (this caught the texas woman off-guard). Clearly, if they knew they made a mistake, they should have informed me within those 48 hours, not when I had to call in weeks later. This call has sent me on a 1 month goose chase that still isn't resolved. In short, finance did the taxes wrong, knew this and didn't correct (still hasn't). They were supposed to send the necessary paper work and never have. No one will return my calls and when they do it was to tell me that I owe more money because of their screwup. Yet they STILL won't send me what I need to get my registration. Finally after calling the guy who leased me my car to get a hold of the finance guy, they sent my what I thought was the correct paperwork. Took another day off work to get my car registered and guess what, they messed up again. Now it's been a week and I can't get a hold of anyone. I've called the general manager, made 2 formal complaints and will go even higher up to Toyota as a whole. THIS IS THE WORST DEALERSHIP EVER. DO NOT BUY FROM THEM. Go down to the Elgin dealership. My dad went down there to get his car and they were tremendously helpful. They even said that if my situation had happened there that they would have bit the bullet and not have made me pay the $2000 extra in taxes. GO ELSEWHERE!!!!!!!!!!!

I would not recommend this dealer.

Finance will lie thru their teeth

By Sgr123 on 1/28/2016 at 1:29 AM. Helped by Derek F..

The finance department will lie and say what they need to get you to sign an extended warranty. They said if I cancel the extended warranty the payment amt will go back to the original amt. Of course the payment amt did not change. That is VERY dishonest. After previously buying 4 vehicles I thought this was a rude way to treat a loyal customer. Not to mention the lack of communication with emails and phone messages not being returned very promptly. It took 2 days to get thru to someone to cancel the extended warranty just shows how rude they are. I will not be back.

I would not recommend this dealer.
