Specifically David Kang. Excellent sales rep. I felt that he was very honest and forthright. I wanted to cut the games, we did. I wanted out of their quickly, I was. I wanted someone very knowledgeable, he was. Everything went smoothly. I highly recommend you make an appointment as he is very popular.

Work with the best!

By STJADEN02 on 7/17/2019 at 1:35 PM.

Jeremy has been a huge help with making sure my needs are met when I visit Elgin Hyundai. He's extremely professional and will work hard to make sure you leave happy. Although, I did not buy my car from Jeremy, since he was not working at the dealership yet, I would recommend and refer him to anyone looking to buy a Hyundai. He really does go the extra mile for his clients and that's definitely something that other dealerships need more of. Thank you, Jeremy!

I would recommend this dealer.

Bait and switch

By RKECN on 7/7/2019 at 2:46 AM.

BEWARE of the bait and switch!!! contacted this dealership today because we were in the market for the 2020 Palisade. I was overjoyed when I found the EXACT model, color and trim package that we were looking for. We were READY TO BUY! I sent in MULTIPLE requests for an "Eprice" (which their website encourages) after over 2 hours of no Eprice and only them encouraging us to "come in for a test drive" we decided to go to another Hyundai dealership. We started the process of a dealer trade to get this vehicle with the new dealership and came to find out that Elgin Hyundai is NOT in possession of this car AT ALL; its not even on US soil. just "ordered" and thus unable to be sold or make any offers. Shame to be Elgin Hyundai because you lost a sale and now you look like a crappy dealership to others in the area. and you've earned the WORST thing a business can get and that's a BAD REVIEW! buyer's beware of the Elgin Hyundai Bait and Switch!!!!

I would not recommend this dealer.

Buyer beware! read every line, get every offer in writing.

By aimee.ramadan@yahoo.com on 6/30/2019 at 2:07 PM. Helped by Ed Howell Finanace con artist.

Went with my son 06/29/2019 who was excited to buy his first car. First told that the car that we had just called to confirm was available, was not available, which is typical of a dealer. He still finds a brand new 2019, we were quoted the price, options, APR loan %, savings, etc in writing. Get to finance and notice they added $699.99 as "theft deterrent" I point out that we never agreed to that, finance guy acts shocked, shuffles through his papers, apologizes and removes it. Redoes the paperwork, I sign and notice that now he changed the 4.9 % to 6.9%. He says "that's what happens when you remove an option" No, that is what happens when you are committing fraud!! BUYER BEWARE, READ EVERY LINE BEFORE SIGNING!

I would not recommend this dealer.

All lies

By Taha on 6/12/2019 at 9:56 PM. Helped by Tyler.

So I looked up a car online and went to the dealer to test drive it. I did my test drive and everything was great. Then I talked to the sales person about the final price and it was that moment I realized that they are charging way more that what they advertised it for. By adding some extra money for things that should have been included. For example, on their website it said the car is certified and certification is included in the price. After hours of negotiations we came to a price which was bit reasonable. After few hours of paper work I finally bought the vehicle. When leaving the dealership I asked the sales person about the second key, floor mats, and cargo cover and he said it doesn’t come with it as it is is a used vehicle which doesn’t make sense as it is being purchased from a dealer and they should tell these thing before finalizing the deal. Work at experience buying a car!!!

I would not recommend this dealer.

Typical bait and switch

By MGORDO65 on 6/5/2019 at 2:51 PM.

Sent numerous emails to Katie, back and forth, about specific cars that are advertised on their website with a "special" price. I asked specifically if I'm eligible or if these are conditional rebates. Apparently, you have to be everything - a new graduate, a military vet, a loyal customer, etc. Bottom line - if it sounds too good to be true, it is. So shame on me, I guess, but what really got me was that I called Katie prior to coming in and asked again about a particular vehicle (they still had two identically priced cars on their website) and she said she would have it ready to test drive when I got there. You know the rest of the story - both cars had been already sold. Getting into discussions with salesman, I learned that I the price on the internet was a fantasy anyway. I went against my better judgement and paid for it. Waste of time.

I would not recommend this dealer.

Unbelievable.....

By Scott on 5/25/2019 at 9:23 PM.

Everything you don't want in a car buying experience.  WAIT FOR IT......... First, the internet sales manager Tabitha tells me over the phone that the car we are looking for is still available.  I also ask very specifically if online discount price includes recent college grad, first responder or military, (for which we do not qualify) to which she says "no."  We drive 30 minutes to find that the car was sold days ago, and that the discounted price DOES include the special rebates that we do not qualify for.   Enter Steve Johnson the sales consultant, who assured us that he has a better car than the one we came for, with better features.  It's a demonstrator and he can give us a great deal.  We test drive the vehicle and really like it.  We do the the whole back-and-forth thing for about 90 minutes an finally get what we think is a good deal.  Even though this isn't what we came in for, we buy the more-expensive car. Then we wait in the less-than-comfy service department waiting room (why?) for 2 hours to see the business manager, Ed Howell. Sensing we are frustrated, he spends little time trying to sell us the additional warranties, etc.  Later we find out why.  Finally we get signed, give them our deposit, they put the plates on our new car, and we drive it home.  This was a Saturday.  We drove our new car Saturday night to our daughter's graduation, and Sunday to get groceries, and are feeling pretty good about our choice, despite the less-than-stellar customer care at the dealership. Monday morning we get the insurance set-up and we are good to go.   NOW IT GETS RIDICULOUS .....  I receive a call from Steve Johnson late Monday morning saying there's been a "mistake" and we need to return the car as soon as possible.  Steve claims that we did the deal on the "wrong car."  I race outside to check the VIN and sure enough, it doesn't match. He says it's for the trim package below ours and we need to come up with another $3000 if we want to keep it.  Mind you, we never saw, let alone test drove, the vehicle with the VIN that magically appeared on our bill of sale.  I tell Steve that this call should have been made by a manager and asked him to make that happen. Ed Howell, calls me back an hour later and reminds me again (like I'm a common criminal with a credit score in the 800's) that I need to return the vehicle immediately.  Of course, I ask him what they are prepared to do about this massive "mistake" and his response is that they will do nothing about it.  He calls it an "honest mistake" and if I want to keep the vehicle it will cost us another $3000.  I explain to him that we only test drove one vehicle and spent the entirety of our time at the dealership negotiating that one vehicle, and that the VIN number on the bill of sale is irrelevant compared to the agreement that was made between the salesperson, his boss, and us.  I asked him who his manager is and he said, "Mike Meah."  I explained to him that I would need to speak to Mike, and he said it won't do any good because Mike is the one that told him to call me.  So apparently Mike doesn't care about the "mistake" either.   Monday evening we drive back to the dealership to turn in the car and cancel the sale. Now, all of a sudden Mike Meah is super interested in getting involved with our problem and over the next 45 minutes proceeds to discount the car that we had, eventually all the way down to the lower trim package price.  I guess there is something they can do about it........ Ed. I cancelled the sale and bought the same package at another dealer for $1500 MORE.  Yes, that is how little I trust these people.

Lying, scumbags! Will say ANYTHING to get you in the door!

By CARWOMAN52 on 4/13/2019 at 3:55 AM. Helped by Tabitha, and don't remember the sleazy manager's name!.

I found a price for a Hyundai Kona on their site that seemed too good to be true...I should have known better, but I did my due diligence, and had several conversations with their employee Tabitha on e-mail and on the telephone to MAKE SURE there were no additional hidden fees of ANY KIND, or no discounts included in the price that I wouldn't be eligible for. I told her since I was coming from 30-40 minutes away, I wanted to make sure this was the REAL price and that I wasn't wasting my time because I would throw a fit if I was being scammed. She said she asked her manager and that no, there were no other additional fees, no discounts that wouldn't apply, this was the REAL price that I would be paying for the car. I also asked her if this was a demo car or a "manager's" car, and was again assured that, no, this was not either of those and I should come in and everything would be fine. Two days later, I drove the 35 minutes to the dealer after they called to make sure I was coming and confirm when I would be there...when I walked in, no one seemed to know who I was, but at any rate, they assigned me a salesman (Steve) and we went for a test drive. During the drive he pointed out that this was IN FACT, A DEMO CAR with 6,500 miles on it! That was Lie #1 that I was pissed about. If they were honest about it upfront, it wouldn't have been a big deal and would have explained the price, but it was wrong to lie about it. So, even though it was wrong and I was mad, I was still going to go ahead and buy the car until they put the final numbers in front of me, and Lo and Behold! There was a random ~$1000 charge tacked on! When I asked what it was for, I was told it was for a package of oil changes, winter floor mats and pin striping! WHAT?!?!? I told them, well, I don't want that package, take it off. It's not on the widow sticker and it's not mentioned anywhere on the dealer website. I was told they couldn't remove the charge...and after much arguing with the salesman about it and him going to his manager, they reduced this crazy additional fee to $699. I then insisted on seeing the manager myself, who gave my nasty, smug attitude and said it's an "addendum" and claimed all his cars have an "Addendum" price and ALL dealers do it. I told him that I buy cars all the time, and that is NOT true--never heard of such a thing! He just makes up random BS charges and tacks them on to all his cars?!?? How is this place still in business? Anyone who pays this guy an "addendum" charge must be crazy!!! I told them they lied to me about additional charges and about the car being a demo, just to make me waste my morning driving all the way there for nothing. I'd rather pay MORE for the car somewhere else than give them $1 for anything! I left, and will NEVER go back there again and will make sure I spread the word far and wide about their deceptive and criminal practices! Don't fall for their "special" prices and lies!

Suckered

By mad guy on 3/7/2019 at 2:28 PM. Helped by Nick (don't remember last name) Sales Mngr..

On Nov. 17th, we purchased a 2011 Hyundai Elantra for our daughter. The car seemed to be in good condition and had 143,000 miles on it. The Sales people were very accommodating and even had some damage to the front end fixed prior to us actually taking the car after Thanksgiving. I really thought purchasing a used Hyundai from a Hyundai dealer was a smart move in case something came up later. I know full well it's 7 years old and problems may occasionally pop up. Fast forward 2 1/2 months and 600 miles later, she tells me the engine is making a weird noise. I have it checked by not one, but two independent mechanics who say it needs a new engine as this one has a bad rod. After some investigating, this is a known problem for Hyundai on Sonatas and Elantras from 2011- 2013. However no recall has ever been issued for the Elantra. Anyway, when I took it back to the dealership on 2/18/19, I was informed by the service guy that they could do nothing for me. He talked to the Sales Mngr. Nick ?, and was told that they couldn't help. I asked what other options I had. I was told I could purchase a new engine for 7000 plus tax or a used engine for 4500 plus tax. I paid 6500 total for the car, are you kidding me?!? My family mechanic is convinced they knew about the engine problem and masked it with heavy duty oil to keep it quiet, thus the "failure" after 600 miles of driving. I never received any feedback or call from Nick or my salesman David about the incident. We ended up selling it to CarMax for 2000 bucks and a 4500 dollar loss later that week. Couldn't be more disappointed in their "customer service".

The best experience I have ever hand purchasing a car!!!

By TLoth on 7/25/2018 at 5:52 AM. Helped by They were all friendly, everyone I came in contact with, but I don’t know all their names..

I have already recommended Elgin Hyundai to several people! The salesman were attentive, everyone was very welcoming and friendly, and our salesman was fantastic!!!!! He cared about helping me make the right decision more than “making a sale.” He took so much time with me and my daughter, son, and daughter-in-law who were with me. He took the time to answer all of our questions and was knowledgeable on every subject. I can’t say enough good things about him. He made the whole experience pleasant. I did not necessarily intend on buying a car that day, but I did and he is a large reason why. I am so impressed by their service, I will go to them for service as well as purchasing any car for our family in the future, even though they were further from my house.

Fraud & False Advertising, Stay Away!!

By Atosha-WI on 6/27/2018 at 2:02 AM.

They list the car online at a lower price. When you arrive they try to force you to purchase cleaning and deliver packages, accessory packages, & extended warranties. If you don't purchase any additions they add additional money to the online price!!!! Horrible business. They even took a down payment from me and signed a purchase agreement, then backed out the deal on my way to pick the car up, said they weren't making enough off the care!!! review yelp-reviews this place is horrible! It took weeks to get my money refunded!

Best Hyundai Dealer Around

By Rockey11 on 6/3/2018 at 2:21 PM.

Elgin Hyundai is a great dealership to work with. Went to Rosen hyundai they would not negotiate a price on suv. Went to Patrick hyundai they were rude and unwilling to help. Salesman unknowligible about vehicles. Had talk to Lou about suv gave a price asked him what I could work with. We got to a agreement. Next day Lou off but Steve was waiting for me. Gave me what I agreed to. And no hassle about pricing. Even financing was a breeze no Nickle or dime you to death. Best experience i ever had. Thank you Elgin Hyundai

Fantastic, honest, great experience!

By LMLINK73 on 5/2/2018 at 4:47 AM. Helped by Michael, Finance Dpt..

We purchased a 2018 Santa Fe Sport from Dan Struwing this past Saturday. The entire purchase process from start to finish could not have gone more smoothly. Dan was a consummate professional with a personality that brightened our day! Dan answered all of our questions, was patient while we searched for exactly what we wanted & even drove us to an off-site location to look at a specific vehicle. Look no further than Dan if you are looking for a great guy to buy a Hyundai from! My family (extended & otherwise) are die hard Hyundai fans -- this is our 6th purchase from Elgin Hyundai in 13 years. We are pleased not only with the Sales Team but the Repair Team too (Jorge Quevedo is awesome!) Brian Craig, Hyundai Sales Manager, is honest, personable and a great leader. Thanks for keeping us entertained Tom & Jeremy from the Sales Team while we waited for paperwork to be finished. Who could forget Michael in Finance who made us feel like part of the family!

I would recommend this dealer.
