The Service department is the best

By jayellis2010 on 7/2/2019 at 2:53 PM.

These guys have the best techs. When it comes to the ones nobody can figure out. They do. One of the last family owned dealers in Montana.

I would recommend this dealer.

Problem resolved. Much Appreciated

By randymatthews20 on 11/27/2018 at 10:19 PM.

I recently had a bad experience here and had written a bad review because of it. This was due to my inability to get help from the dealership in relation to mechanical issues on a truck I had purchased from them. They have since made it right, so I feel obligated to write another review in place of the previous one. Long story short: The person who traded the truck into Bob Smith that I later purchased, had some major repairs done at Bob Smith's service department just 2 months prior to me purchasing it. Just one month after I purchased it, the same mechanical failure happened again (head gaskets, warped heads, etc... Totaling over $7000). I had exhausted what I thought was every option, as I could not get a hold of a manager, and the people I was able to speak to had informed me there was nothing they could do. Since then the managers have gotten in touch with me, and though reimbursement for the repairs wasn't possible, they are fixing several unrelated problems with the truck at no cost to me. The dishonest employee that caused this whole fiasco, is no longer with the company, and I believe he was solely responsible for my bad experience. I am very thankful for the treatment I have since received from the managers and applaud their willingness to do what they could to make things right. I would have no problem purchasing from them again in the future, or recommending them to friends and family. If I could offer my opinion on one other issue though, it would be to better educate their sales people on what is and is not covered in extended warranties that they sell with their used vehicles. I had purchased a warranty with this truck for $4500 and later learned that it would have never covered anything on that truck. This was due to a performance tuner that was installed in the truck prior to me purchasing it. Again I don't think this was done on purpose, and even so, was done solely by the aforementioned lying employee that has since moved on. I just think it was an oversight that could have been avoided. Please accept my humble apology as to how I reacted initially, as my anger and haste was misguided. Big thank you to Robbie, Dane, and Scott Smith.

I would recommend this dealer.

Horrible experience. Nothing but lies and deceit

By randymatthews20 on 10/26/2018 at 11:39 PM. Helped by Michael Mutch, Mike Sims,.

This could get a bit long winded as I want to include every detail, so please, bear with me. First, I want to preface this by saying that I have never felt compelled to write a rant, or even a negative review on a business. I feel like many that are posted these days are unwarranted and usually, unfairly, only offer one side. This can, and usually does, damage the business in question.. Although, as a last resort, public rants/negative reviews can help to hold the ones that refuse to do the right thing accountable. That being said, every effort on my end has been made to handle this matter privately. Since they refuse to make any effort to resolve said matter, I now feel obligated to warn any future customers of Bob Smith Lincoln. So, earlier this year (February 3rd, 2018) I bought a truck (2008 Ford Diesel) from Bob Smith Lincoln. Before I bought it, they had showed me an invoice from their service department, detailing a series of repairs equaling about $6,000 and dated just a few months prior. The truck was leaking coolant and turned out to have had blown head gaskets and warped heads. Because of this I was leery and wanted to purchase a warranty with the truck, which they sold me for $4,300. This was a 40,000 mile, extended powertrain warranty, which according to them would cover any major repair cost, should I need it. When I got the truck home to Wyoming, I noticed it was leaking coolant again. I took it to a shop here in Cody, Wy to have it checked out for that and a few other electrical issues. I contacted the warranty company and was informed that it actually covers very few repairs, and much less than Bob Smith had informed me of... Definitely not worth $4300. I called Bob Smith and they hadn’t run the charge for the warranty yet, so I told them to just cancel it... No problem. The repair shop found that the cap on the coolant reservoir had a broken seal, and when replaced, stopped the coolant leak for a while.. I thought that was it. About a month later (July, 2018) it started leaking coolant again. I took it back in, they pressure tested the system and found blown head gaskets. I called Bob Smith and asked them about the repairs they had done and whether there was any warranty on the repair work itself, as they had done it less than a year ago. I thought I had been given a copy of that invoice, but couldn’t find it anywhere. They asked for my VIN #, checked the system, and said the work must’ve been done elsewhere. According to him, there was no record of it. I told them that the invoice they showed me was from their repair shop and they told me it was probably just their document header, as they had printed it off to put with the truck paperwork. At that point they couldn’t do anything, so my only option was to bite the bullet and pay for the repairs myself. This time the repairs totaled just shy of $7,000. This was a few months ago (July).. Just a couple days ago I came across the paperwork for the warranty that was cancelled, and with it was the invoice for prior repairs. It was dated November of 2017 (less than a year ago) and clearly from Bob Smith service department. I called the service department on Tuesday and got them up to speed on the situation and asked what could be done. She asked for my VIN #, checked the system, and instantly pulled up the invoice and read it off to me. Exact same repairs I had just paid to have done again. She informed me that, had I brought it back to them, they might’ve been able to help. Since I didn’t, there was nothing they could do. The guy that had previously lied to me about the work being preformed elsewhere, no longer worked there. They apologized for that, but still nothing they could do. That was the service department, so just to be sure, I called the main branch manager. He didn’t answer, so I left him a message to please call me back. A couple days later, I hadn’t heard anything back from him. Then I noticed that my credit card had been charged $2000 dollars from Bob Smith Lincoln. (When I had called them to cancel the warranty, it hadn’t been charged because the transaction was too large to clear without approval. Because it hadn’t, they cancelled it without issue) I was then told that since my card was declined earlier in the year when I purchased the truck, they were told to run it through as 2 separate charges now (about 6 months later, without a call or warning). This was completely unrelated to the other issue, as they had pushed that charge through before I had even called them about the prior repairs. Now I’m infuriated. Not only did they lie to me about having done the repairs, but turns out, one of the managers had said that I called him and told them to run that card through as 2 separate charges of $2,000 and $2,300. BLATANT LIES. I would have never agreed to that charge, let alone call them and tell them to run it, as the warranty was cancelled 6 months prior. After all that, I am told that the warranty they sold me would have never covered any powertrain failure in the first place as the truck has a performance chip, which voids any warranty. A chip that was installed in the truck prior to me purchasing it from them. You would think a customer would be informed of that before the warranty was purchased. But instead, they decided to tell me that now. Why you ask? Because the repairs I had done cost almost $3,000 more than the warranty would have. So, I assume a reimbursement would have been necessary at that point This is not how business should be done. As far as I am concerned, only a true xxxxxxx could lie and deceive so blatantly for profit. A large company like Bob Smith Motors needs to be held to a higher standard. I truly hope that the people who behave this way are eventually held accountable. My grandfather was proud to have bought his very first brand new car at Bob Smith Lincoln back in the late 70’s and our family has purchased from them several other times in the past. I don’t believe they are a bad company, but I believe there is more than one bad apple in the bunch, and unfortunately, they are also in management. Side note: The repairs I had done, were done by Wyoming Diesel Power in Cody Wyoming. They are a highly regarded, honest, and reputable business. They informed me that the only reasonable explanation for the early head failure was either incorrect procedure by Bob Smith Motors, failure to use genuine replacement parts, or the truck was extremely overheated at some point after the first repair. It had never overheated since being in my possession. As an insult to injury, I was told by the technician at Bob Smith motors that the life expectancy on that repair is only six months, due to the performance chip. This is a completely absurd statement that I can only ascertain was meant for a person who is ignorant to the mechanics of a diesel engine. Even if true, wouldn’t you assume that information would be relayed to the customer before a $6000 repair was preformed? This just further solidifies my belief that lies and deceit are commonplace in every department of Bob Smith Lincoln, and may even be a trained practice for their employees. Sorry for the long rant, but I believe every detail is necessary to help others avoid an experience like mine. I truly hope it does. My personal theory: First big repair in November was done for the customer that ultimately traded the truck with Bob Smith Lincoln. Another minor repair was detailed in another invoice from Bob Smith Motors (January 24th, 2018) with the customer listed as Bob Smith Motors, as they were in possession of the vehicle at that time. I believe it was traded because the head failure was caught early (within a month, 2 at most) and promptly taken on trade in an attempt to make things right with the previous customer. They then used the large repair invoice as a way to hike the price and provide peace of mind about that particular component being fresh. All the while, I believe, knowing it was on the brink of failure once again. Also, since I revealed that I did not have the invoice, the guy I spoke to saw a golden opportunity to deny the repair work being done there. I believe this because the lady I spoke to in the service department informed me that the invoice would have been accessible to any department by simply entering my VIN number. I also want to note that in the moment, I was very rude with Jeri Domson, and she didnt deserve it, as the lies were from others. So for that, I apologize.

I would not recommend this dealer.

Military unfriendly

By Cargiel on 1/23/2018 at 9:38 PM.

Joel Hiles quoted me prices without military rebate even though I told him I was a veteran and tried to charge more on doc fees that isn’t allowed using Disabled American Veterans Ford X-Plan. He was pushy and arrogant. I was contacted by two salesmen from same dealer. I asked Joel not to contact me again, but he did anyhow. No boundaries! I contacted dealership to inform and received no answer. Definitely do not recommend!

At first I was satisfied

By Veteran252 on 11/2/2017 at 10:13 AM.

At first I was satisfied with the service I had received from the dealership. Everyone was friendly and the steps to the buying process worked out smoothly. It was not until after the purchase did it become apparent that the finance team had taken values meant to be deducted from the total sales price (such as rebate, and trade in value) and essentially they had added them to the total. It would be unfortunate for this to happen to someone else.

I would not recommend this dealer.

Harassment

By Harassment on 11/3/2016 at 3:56 PM.

I did an online trade in estimate. Specifically said do not contact me! Within a few hours the sales associate was calling and emailing asking several questions about doing business with me and what my plans were. If i was going to buy new or used, and askin me to call them back. These pushy people ignored my request and were persistent in this harassment.

Joel contacted me immediately, very courteous and personable

By wyogal on 11/12/2015 at 5:34 AM.

When I shop for a vehicle, I am very opinionated...about the car, and in particular the sales person who is helping me through the process. Since we are in the western states, and shopping for a vehicle takes time, distance and trust into consideration, it goes without saying that if you take your vehicle shopping seriously, you do your homework. I am a business person, and I have to say that I found Joel to be up front, straight forward and mostly likely honest with his appraisal of the vehicle I was seeking. After shopping around in the Denver metro area (my past home), I think I may have found the deal here, at Bob Smith Motors, and with Joel. Thank you so much for your sincere enthusiasm! VERY PLEASANT DOING BUSINESS WITH BOB SMITH MOTORS,& BOB M.

By Lincoln MKT on 7/28/2015 at 5:38 PM.

No pressure from salesman. Bob Murphy. All staff was very pleasant and efficient. Very clean and organized facility. I was a little gun shy about shopping for a new vehicle due to a bad experience from another dealership in Billings. They would not give my keys back to me for a long time. Kept me captive in his office. Yikes!

Excellent

By CX5 Touring on 6/26/2015 at 4:38 PM.

We usually cringe at the thought of car shopping/buying a car. However, Stan Larson at Bob Smith Motors changed our minds. We were impressed that Stan knew who we were when we pulled into the lot after a short conversation. He had the Mazda CX5 that we were interested in waiting for us when we arrived even though we arrived about 3 hours early. After the test drive, we knew we were looking for a little bit more. He pointed us in the right direction.. Kevin got the paperwork done very quickly. In total we probably only spent about 2.5 hours test driving and finding just the right vehicle. Thank you Stan and Kevin for a very pleasant buying experience.

Bob Smith Lincoln Mazda is the worst service department...

By mazda_Billings on 9/12/2013 at 3:37 AM. Helped by Lyle Deffinbaugh.

Bob Smith Lincoln Mazda is the worst service department in Billings, MT. We had a new timing belt, water pump, and tune up done on our Mazda. After we drove 3500 miles and began experiencing problems just outside of Denver, CO, we took our Mazda to the local Mazda Dealership and was informed we needed a NEW timing belt and water pump. We presented the official repair receipt to Bob Smith in hope of a refund. The service department manager said there was no warranty on labor or parts and they would not do anything to help us, it was our problem. We later learned that Bob Smith does not use genuine Mazda parts as they claim, even though they charged us for them. Paid $1700.00 to a Premier Lincoln Mazda Dealer for quality work and got less than half assed repairs. They have a take the money and run attitude. It is amazing they still have any business. Overall they are nothing but another lying and cheating car dealership. We will never do business there again and we do NOT recommend them to anyone!

By petersonv on 1/23/2012 at 7:09 PM. Helped by Robbie.

They sold me a lemon. The truck broke down on a regular basis. Finally it had a big breakdown, so I took it to Bob Smith to be worked on. When I had them work on my pickup they sold me, they charged me 300 dollars to clean my EGR cooler, and quoted me 3000 to actually fix the pickup. I took my pickup somewhere else, got it fixed for around 2000, and they told me the EGR cooler was filthy. When I went back to Bob Smith with receipts from the work done and showed them where the other place told me Bob Smith didn't clean my EGR cooler (even though I paid 300 dollars for it) Bob Smith's son Robbie just told me "Well we can't make everyone happy." What a joke! They sold me a lemon, and then wouldn't even stand behind their own work. What a crappy place to buy a vehicle.

The place is a "bait and switch" rip off. Long story...

By sf on 10/28/2010 at 4:42 AM. Helped by cy.

The place is a "bait and switch" rip off. Long story short, they were dishonest about a warranty claim and misdiagnosed a mechanical problem, then after the "fix" refused to provide a work order showing "work" that had been done. Many, many calls to the dealer and certified letters asking for resolution have all been ignored. A very bad place indeed - go somewhere else - you will be glad that you did!!!
