Disappointed in the lack of honesty

By 2013 Honda Odyssey on 12/4/2018 at 2:39 AM. Helped by Doug service writer.

When I returned to pick up my minivan that had a new motor just installed I only made it 12 miles when when an engine light started to flash continuously the car started running rough and wouldn't go over 40 miles an hour I could smell oil and radiator fluid burning I returned immediately to Escondido Honda was giving another rental car and told they would look into it next morning service writer Doug called me up tells me it's running fine and come get it I asked him what the problem was he said the mechanic forgot to reset the limp mode in the computer I asked him if the mechanic test roads he said the mechanic told him he did I don't see how he could have not noticed it when I showed up to pick up the vehicle the work order indicated the transmission fluid was low and that was the problem I was also told but not written down on the work order was that they had to clean the engine because of oil and radiator fluid that was left on it and that's what I was smelling I asked to see the service manager and he had no knowledge of there being a motor put in my vehicle he had no knowledge that it came back after 12 miles he had no knowledge of what was wrong with my vehicle and had to ask somebody in the back they said transmission fluid was low I brought that vehicle back after 12 miles it was overheating and in limp mode with engine lights flashing none of this was indicated on the work order limp mode is a condition the computer will put the car in when is trying to prevent severe engine damage do to detonation or overheating there's no way low transmission fluid would have created this condition. I will be filing a complaint with the Bureau of Automotive

I would not recommend this dealer.

Bad experience with this unprofessional dealership.

By unsatisfied customer on 4/13/2018 at 12:03 AM. Helped by Doug Saunders, Hilary Owen.

I bought a brand new Honda CRV lately from this dealership through Costco Auto Purchase program. Within a month (less than 300 miles), the car got oil leak problem (I really don;t know how they did their pre-delivery inspection and don't want to speculate if they might know the problem before the delivery). The fact is I got a new car with defect. I brought the car back to them for a inspection and repair. The server adviser took more than five days to get the job done. During the inspection and repair, they damaged the engine turbocharger support, without promptly notifying me. During the repair, I seldom get calls and updates from them. Instead, I have to call the the service adviser multiple times a day to get his response, the most passive service adviser I ever met. The issue is the dealer and service adviser did not notify or communicate with me with the turbocharger issue they created until the end of the service. Although they finally got all jobs done and replaced the damaged parts with my car's warranty. The dealership without gave me the apology until I complained to their Customer Relationship Manager. Speaking of the experience with the Customer Relationship Manager, her attitude is cold and apathetic with my complaints. I don't feel her sincerity at all. I came to Honda with good expectations through Costco Auto Program but my confidence was totally destroyed by what they did to me. I would strongly suggest Honda USA review the representative ability of this dealership to fulfill customer-satisfied sales and service. Before this dealership is willing to make efforts to improve their service, I would definitely NOT recommend anyone to purchase and service vehicle through this dealership, Take your business to another place who may treat you better.

I would not recommend this dealer.

Fraudulent practices

By upset on 4/14/2017 at 2:50 AM. Helped by Jarrod Bierman, Doug, (don't know last name).

Doug said my A/C compressor was bad, really bad, the problem is that they had drained the freon out of it. They wanted me to spend over $ 1,000 to have it replaced when it was not necessary. This is FRAUD. It has happened to me last year as well, they said I needed front and rear breaks. I had the fronts replaced, not knowing any difference. The rear brakes are still good several months later. I will never go back to this Dealer for ANYTHING.. I am going to take them to Small Claims Court. I all fairness, Jarrod was very courteous. Dou was the problem, he should be fired...Gave the Dealership a bad reputation.

By L. CARY on 9/11/2012 at 10:14 PM. Helped by Russ and Becky (and the courtesy driver Frank?).

Well first off, it is not typical of me to write a review... But I had such a pleasant visit to Honda of Escondido, I feel compelled. We move often and I have been to my share of Honda dealerships. With this particular problem I had called two previous/different dealerships to help me resolve it. Neither was helpful and both were rude. Claiming that I should be the one to pay in full for this issue.... which was hard for me to understand since it was a recall to begin with. (I half way think the part wasn't really replaced initially, thats another story). Anyhow I have been driving with the "replaced"/ "recalled" part for only months when it fails. Of course that part should be covered under the 12 month/12,000 mile part warranty.... but one dealership says I still have to pay $130'ish to just diagnose the issue.... and the other says "parts fail... you would get the bill"......huh?????????? A friend of mine just bought a luxury car and raves at how you get treated at the dealership being the best part. The pampering and care.... that little extra effort. And how they love to have their cars in so that they can take care of you and the problem. Not sounding so bad ehh? Well I finally found that extra effort today. Honda of Escondido was understanding on the phone, prompt to get me an appointment, in the next day, fast friendly service, provides a shuttle (so nice), and my car was done in a jiffy! These folks made my day and restored a little faith in company pride with customer service. Russ took care of everything service, Becky (whom I dealt with on the phone) came out to meet me personally, and such a pleasant courtesy driver! Just great. My car came back to me washed and fixed! In addition.... this recalled part was covered at no cost to me, while the other dealerships were trying to make several hundred dollars off me! Im happy to have finally found the place I will always take my Honda! Thank you Honda of Escondido! Sincerely, Laura Cary

I would recommend this dealer.

By fkobayashi1952 on 3/30/2011 at 3:09 AM. Helped by GREG SCHUCK.

In February, 2011 I received a letter from American Honda Motor Co. re- the low headlight switch recall of my 2008 Honda Fit. This recall letter also stated that I should plan to leave my Fit for half a day to allow the dealer flexibility in scheduling. I called Greg Schuck, Service Advisor, to make an appointment to check out the recall problem, plus perform their "World Class Inspection". On the appointment date of 2/25/2011, I arrived at 9:00am and met with Greg Schuck who wrote my service order. I had planned to take their 9;30am shuttle van back to home, 19 miles away. However, Greg said that he will put a rush on my order and should be done in about 1 1/5 hours, so I decided to wait in their comfortable lounge and enjoy a free cup of coffee. After an hour and 5 minutes later, Greg called my name and said that everything was completed, including a free carwash. Your dealership is fortunate to have someone like Greg Schuck on your staff. Best regards, Fred Kobayashi.

I would recommend this dealer.

By Cynthia C on 3/28/2011 at 11:53 PM. Helped by Tony Owen.

5 star for Tony Owen! See him if you need service. He is the first service person I’ve come across who was honest and genuinely looking to help me out and not rip me off. Here’s my LONGGGG story. After a bad experience with express tire and getting multiple diagnoses for my problem, I decided to bring it to a dealership to get down to the real problem. I know people cringe when you say dealership because that mean $$$, but it was necessary this time. The problem: Squealing serpentine belt. Express tire said it was due to a loosening belt and also informed me my oil pan was leaking. There diagnosis was to replace the oil pan (according to them it couldn’t be repaired just replaced...BS!), serpentine belt and pulley. There quote: $400+ (89.99 belt, 189.99 pulley, 200 labor) to replace the pulley and belt! That weekend I got the pulley and belt for $24 and 30 minutes later the belt and pulley was replaced. It wasn’t "lose" nor was it worn, but since it would need to be done anyways and the parts were cheap, why not? Few days later the squealing returned and I figured it was oil from, the pan getting onto the belt. The following weekend I was going to tackle the oil pan with my stepfather. After looking more closely, it looks like the leaking WASNT from the oil pan or oil filter. He suggested I take it to a few places to get a proper diagnose. It was amazing that out of 8 places I called, 6 just gave me a blind quote of $700+ and 2, one being Honda of Escondido told me they couldn’t quote me till they check it out and make sure. I decided to go straight to Honda since who else would be better at looking at a Honda then the people who work on them day in and day out. Tony was professional, friendly and the most importantly HONEST! He saved me probably $1000+ in unnecessary repairs from WRONG diagnoses by others shops. 2 hours later the Honda mechanic found it wasn’t oil leaking, but power steering fluid! My powers steering pump was leaking bad. Tony’s quote to repair it with genuine parts put a new serpentine belt (since it was covered in fluid) and clean up my engine was FAIR, but still $600 of which I didn’t have. If I did, I would have said yes in a heartbeat. Fortunately my sister works for an auto parts company and my stepfather was a mechanic in his past life so we will be working on it this weekend for much less. When I thanked Tony, but declined the service, he didn’t give a attitude lie most places do when you tell them no, and was still curious and friendly On the way to the cashier he gave me some more advice and I am VERY thankful and blessed to have gotten Tony when I called into Honda Escondido. I will definitely be bringing my car here from now on when I have car issues (hopefully not anytime soon). P.S Awesome waiting lounge with FREE Starbucks coffee/hot coco, water, popcorn and vending machines. The whole dealership is spotless and nicely decorated with comfortable seating arrangements and a BIG TV.

I would recommend this dealer.

By fireskipper on 1/13/2011 at 7:00 PM. Helped by Paul Najor.

We were contacted by this dealer through the Costco program. On our first visit they were friendly and took their time with us. We wanted to make sure we were getting the best price, so we didn't purchase at first visit. We requested bids via internet from many other dealers in our area. Because we first dealt with Escondido Honda, we gave them first opportunity to meet or beat one of our 3 lowest bids. Upon arrival at our second visit, the original friendliness was gone. The sales person we were dealing with, Paul Najor, was visually upset for us not taking their original offer (plus he never returned my phone call and took a long time to return emails; it felt like he just didn't care anymore; and his return emails were very short and seemed curt). Paul took our internet bid copies to his sales manager, who, according to Paul, offered to come down only to the highest internet bid we received (less than $100). We made a counter offer slightly above the highest of our 3 lowest bids, but Paul was not even interested in dealing further. He "immediately" said no and shook our hand. My wife and I were shocked by his quick refusal to negotiate further. We went to another dealer immediately who had provided an internet bid. We purchased our new car. Our purchase price was lower than the offer we made to Paul at Escondido Honda. It's unfortunate I didn't read their reviews before I went there. For if I had, I wouldn't have asked for Paul Najor.

I would not recommend this dealer.

I recently purchased a Honda at Honda of Escondido & I am as happy with the car as I am with the dealership. Specifically, I would like to mention Andrea Schramm who provided excellent customer service throughout the purchasing & delivery process. The dealership is motivated to sell cars and I got a great deal on a beautiful car. Thanks also to Lou, Tony, Jorge, Julie Vue for their help in completing paperwork and handling the details of registration. I have already recommended Honda of Escondido to several friends and co-workers and look forward to doing business there again soon. The professional team at Honda of Escondido delivers hassle-free, outstanding customer care. Many thanks!

I was on Edmonds.com and used the "Get Dealer Quotes"...

By livinginsandiego on 5/1/2010 at 4:33 AM. Helped by Paul Najor.

I was on Edmonds.com and used the "Get Dealer Quotes" link to hook up with about 5 dealerships. I received quotes from all five. Honda of Escondido was quite a bit better than the rest and I found out why. I received quotes from the internet division and from the sales person Paul Najor. I confirmed the price with him and then asked what the out-the-door would be on another email. He got me into the dealership and showed me the price on an upgraded version that was on my mind --Civic EX/Nav to Civic EX-L/Navigation. We went into his office and he gave me the price difference after he looked it up. So this was the third time he was looking up the supposed price right? I asked him point blank if the reason for this good price was because of the $1000 factory to dealer incentive that he told me about via email and he confirmed. This EX-L wasn't in the color that I preferred so I wanted my wife to take a look at it as she'd be driving it part of the time. Later that evening I had my wife go back to the dealership with me. We took the car for a test drive and the car seemed fine to us so Paul goes back to his office. He comes back out and has discovered his mistake. He claimed that he quoted me the price for a model without the Navigation by mistake. But, on his email, he *DID* quote me for a model with Navigation because the MSRP that he quoted *is* the MSRP for a model with Nav. The only mistake was *his* quoted price, which he quoted again, and again. I guess he looked up the wrong price by mistake all those times then??? The thing about all of this is that I read a review of H. of Escondido from someone else where the exact same thing happened. I wanted to confirm, once again, before I packed the kids up and had my wife clear out her car for a trade in that his price was correct and that I wasn't going to have any surprises but Paul didn't answer my calls over the course of three hours --or my emails between when I first went in and when we were ready to go back. When he pulled this scam when I asked my wife if the car was okay with her and she responded that it was. Isn't this what we're supposed to avoid by internet sales? When I told him that I read a review that they do this tactic at Honda of Escondido he just responded as he walked away, "People make mistakes. Let me know what I can do for you if you're interested."

I would recommend this dealer.

Andrea Hammond was a pleasure to do business with. Extremely professional and was so helpful with answering slot of questions over my 2 month process in reaching a decision as which vehicle to purchase. Never once did she pressure me into a purchase! She went over every feature of the van and ensured that I had a in depth understanding of how all the features worked. Honda gave me an Awesome deal! From the General Manager to the Receptionist, all were great to meet. I would defintely purchase another vehicle from this dealership!
