No more trust

By Bwhit on 7/18/2019 at 4:05 PM. Helped by Don't remember, at this point don't care.

My car was service by only Bannister Nissan for the time if purchase at Nissan of Chesapeake. I drove from Newport News to Chesapeake for ,10 years. Always satisfied. However my last visit I was told I had Axel leak and transmission leak. The merchanic showed me the leak, dripping. However nothing in my driveway from either. Three certified merchanics checked my car found no leaks on either. I contacted recall center was told to get diastolic on transmission and they would cover it. At this point I don't think I'll returning to Bannister as I lost trust in there service department. Sorry no more trust 10 years of service and dedication gone .always gave excellent rating this is do disappointing.

I would not recommend this dealer.

"TOTAL RIP OFF"

By #LOYALNISSANOWNER on 6/3/2019 at 11:00 PM.

"TOTAL RIP OFF" - #LOYALNISSANOWNER I have posted this review on Sunday 6/02/2019 and 5:17 pm the next day I received an email saying my language was prohibited by their policies. I hope the Content Moderation Team reads this again. I have removed everything you thought was a violation which I know it wasn’t….I was just telling the truth. Again I've been a loyal customer of this dealership since 2005, first as Green Gifford Nissan and then Charles Barker Nissan and I have received the greatest sales/service under both those name through many years. I did continue my service here when it became Nissan of Norfolk and have also purchase another vehicle there as well. I'm the owner of three Nissan model and there's a total of 7-8 in my family which have purchase at this location. My experience with the new BANISTER NISSAN service department I must say it's hard to describe since the name change. They are not truthful and will tell you stuff is wrong and cannot show proof of what’s was wrong, no diagnostic printout nothing, they avoid that question when you ask and just want you to take their word for it then in the end they ask for good survey. My suggestion is ALWAYS GET A SECOND OPINION AND YOU WILL SAVE BIG $$$$ I did by making a call to another dealer while I'm there. They try to sell me a part for $1100 through the service dept. that the other dealer is selling for under $500 so my quote went from almost $2000 parts and labor to saving of $800. It has become my worst Nissan Service experience they pray on people that don't know. Their service advisers don't know the product and they are train to up sell you on what you don't need. Their Service Manager is not truthful, he will look you in your face and do just that ........I guess that's what Banister is all about these days. I have since taken my business to HALL NISSAN about 10 miles from my home now verses to 2.5 miles from THIS place. They have also removed my email address that's been in their system for over 14 years so I don't get any survey and NISSAN Corporation will not find out what they did to me. Banister I will take my service elsewhere. I guess you will ask to have this remove this again….THE Truth

Amazing customer service

By Daporcha Brisco on 4/18/2019 at 6:47 PM. Helped by Chanel (rental department).

I highly recommend Banister Nissan in Norfolk. When I say that their customer service with all their staff is so amazing. I came in with a couple things that needed to be fix on my SUV that a previous shop didn't complete. I was connected to Megan in the service department to help with scheduling me to come in to get my SUV look at. Words can't explain how helpful Megan was. She went above and beyond to help. Then I was connected to Chanel in the rental department who help with getting me a vehicle to fit my family needs while my car was getting repair. I spoke with Chanel previously before I brought my vehicle into get service I check to see if they had any vehicles to fit 7 passagers and at the time they didn't but Chanel stay in contact with me to let me know when they had a opening. Once a opening came available Chanel coordinated with Megan and I was able to have a rental while my car got repaired. When I say that the Norfolk team work together to get the job done they really do. I think God for Megan and Chanel for all their help with assisting me and my family.

I would recommend this dealer.

Awesome experience

By schuylerkd on 2/27/2019 at 6:14 PM. Helped by Yameilee Melendez.

Yameilee was phenomenal! I was very anxious about coming in to purchase a new vehicle. She was super positive, knowledge, reassuring and fun throughout the entire process. The other staff involved in my buying experience, Ray and Angie, were just as awesome, positive, knowledgeable, reassuring and fun as Yameilee. Overall, I look forward to being a lifetime customer of Banister Nissan.

SCAM ARTISTS

By DISSATISFIED CUSTOMER on 12/2/2018 at 8:43 AM.

Bought my car from them in July, 2017 and have been compliant with maintenance. Started hearing a slight whistling sound and asked during SEVERAL regular maintenances to check my breaks; each time I was told everything was ok and brakes were fine. Got car inspected and passed. Went back the following month (mind you, several months have passed at this point) to inquire about the sound AGAIN and was told, to my surprise, I barely passed inspection. When I asked why, I was told because of my brakes! Instead of paying the $450+ they charged just for the front brakes, I took my car elsewhere. Went for regular maintenance another time and asked them to check my tires. Was told it was time to rotate them anyway, so I consented to pay for this service. My car had been feeling a little "different" on the road before then, so this was the perfect opportunity to see if something was wrong with the tires. Nope, said everything was A-OK. After about a week, the car still had that little wobbly feeling, so I took it to one of the tire stores and the person there told me I had a tire that needed to be changed out or it would eventually blow out on me. That's when I called and went to Bannister Nissan to talk to the GM about filing a formal complaint, as I am a single woman and the 2 mishaps could have cost me my life, since NO ONE there informed me of these major issues with my car. After they "investigated" and reviewed the tapes, one of the managers told me the tech did rotate my FRONT tires, but not the back! I paid to have ALL the tires rotated, so my rationale was if he didn't rotate the back tires, obviously, there was an issue, but NO ONE informed me and I was planning to take a road trip to GA in the next few weeks. What do you think could have happened if I had driven several hundred miles on that tire?! Instead of providing me with the paperwork to file a formal complaint, I was told by the GM to send him an email and he would provide the point of contact info for the owner and corporate. When I emailed him, instead of providing info that I asked for, he stated that he would forward my email to another manager! The manager called and left a message; I returned the call and left a message, but have not received a call back to this day, which is why I'm writing this review! And yes, I am still contacting corporate regarding the lack of communication between the customers and staff regarding major and, potentially, life threatening issues going on with their customers' cars. I am a single mother, who does a lot of traveling and had other car professionals not informed me of the issues with my car, I may not be here today. I believe the regular "free" maintenance is to get you to come in so they can tell you how your cabin filter needs to be changed for $250, but wait until your rotors are xxxx near gone, before informing you of brake issues, so they can charge you more and feel that a tire is so bad, that they don't rotate it and they DON'T inform you about it, even when asked. I'm not even sure if they are really changing the oil at this point. Watch these snakes closely and ladies, go in for your regular maintenance (perhaps, the Chesapeake location), but have someone else to look over your car to make sure you and your family are safe because these people could care less. By the way, this review is just the beginning; no need to call me now. Just provide the info and paperwork for me to contact corporate.

Best experience I have had buying a car.

By Naomhnb on 12/1/2018 at 2:01 AM.

This dealership is literally the best dealership I have had the privilege of buying a car from. The sales person (Wilson Washington) was amazing and at no point did I feel pressured. He was extremely helpful and really the entire evening was a delight instead of the nightmare I expected. I highly recommend this dealership.

Repair scam

By hly4life on 10/31/2018 at 8:49 PM.

My wife purchased a brand new 2015 Nissan Juke. Comes with free oil changes and state inspections. Here’s the problem we have had our vehicle serviced there for 2 years and the 3rd year we take it for an inspection. Never had a problem with ac/defrost etc. I mentioned to the service guy that the engine would idle a little high in first and second gear to check that out for me. Well after waiting for 3 1/2 hrs for an inspection he comes back and claims my defrost switch isn’t working and in order for it to pass inspection I have to have it working. So I’m like no never had a problem with the switch turning from defrost to air conditioning. Well It’s going to run about $450 I’m like wait what??? This car is 2 1/2 years old is there a recall for this or something? Tells me no and said I must have it fixed. So I’m like well let me see it. He takes me to the back to speak to the mechanic. Why does the mechanic have my whole radio panel (factory) taken apart and look startle when I asked him what he was doing. Clearly did not give anyone permission to take apart my radio dash and everything. When he saw me he had his arm in the back of the paneling like he disconnected something and with a startling look on his face was like oh I think it’s fixed I can pass you now. However now the switch is broken and doesn’t work the ac doesn’t even work. If the switch was originally broken why or who gave you permission I didn’t to tamper with it before allowing me to see it not working before you disassembled the radio dash. This is a scam because I was getting free oil changed and inspections and this mechanic felt the need to make some extra bonus $$$. Will never Ever take any of my vehicles there again NEVER EVER. BUYER BEWARE SCAMMERS

One hour for a oil change. I had a appointment for 7:30am.

By Gwen on 8/8/2018 at 10:00 PM. Helped by Jonathan Brown.

This was my 3rd 5000 oil change. No good morning. Staff appeared overwhelmed at 7:30am. The first oil change took 20min. 2nd took almost 2 hours. This one a hour. Why can't I have my oil changed somewhere else. I don't mind paying for it. Your customer service needs a inservice on customer relations. Definitely need to have a couple of people who do just oil changes. Same with the Chesapeake dealership. I brought 2 cars. My daughter has the same complaint. Sales department 10. Service department in Norfolk?

Service Department Ripoff

By tjfmlf on 5/31/2018 at 11:46 PM.

I would give zero stars if I could! My 81 year old Mom took her 2012 Rogue to Banister Nissan yesterday to get an inspection, an oil/filter change, and her wipers replaced. They did all of that, and no issues with those services. However, they also talked her into getting the Bilstein engine flush, a brake system flush, and a fuel system cleaning/flush. I think they charged my Mom in excess of $250 for those services, and none of them were needed. My Mom's car only has 28K miles on it. An engine flush "could" be beneficial in an old car, where regular oil was used and not changed very often. My Mom's car only has 28K miles on it and has always had full synthetic oil on regular changes. As for the fuel system flush, give me a break. Fuel injectors "can" get dirty, in about 80K miles. Certainly not at 28K miles, and even if they were, a can of fuel injector cleaner can fix that - not a $100 service at the dealership. Finally, the brake system flush is pretty much a cash grab and a predatory service pushed upon people that don't know anything about vehicle maintenance. The brake system is a closed system. It would never need to be flushed unless it was somehow contaminated, and I'm not even sure how that it could happen on it's own. It's xxxx unlikely on a low mileage car. Clearly this dealership saw my Mom as an easy mark, and she usually calls me BEFORE she allows anyone to do any work. She didn't this time, and these criminals took full advantage of her. Joe Wachner, the Service Manager there, is clearly running a predator like service department, taking advantage of people who don't know any better. He should be ashamed! My Dad was a career Marine, and if he was still with us, he would be in there ripping this dealership a new one. And I'm not local, or I'd be in there doing the same. I did reach out to them yesterday, and to this point they have ignored my inquiries. My Mom, an 81 year old military widow is on a fixed budget and doesn't deserved to be ripped off like this. And really cannot afford to be. I implore the Tidewater military community to stay away from Banister Nissan. And really, all of Tidewater. No one deserves to get ripped off, and that's what this place does. They rip you off. Hit them where it counts the most. Take your business elsewhere.

By ash_86 on 3/13/2018 at 2:45 AM.

From the time I walked on the car lot Jean made sure I was well taken care of. Did I think I was going to get a car that day? No I didn't! Jean was very knowledge and understandable of my situation. I told him what I could afford and made sure it was in my range. The first car he shown me is what I fell in love with. I would recommend anyone to Jean Castel. A man that's very driven, equipped and intellectual. Thanks again Jean for making my dreams come true! God is beyond awesome!

Bamboozled

By Kevjord on 3/12/2018 at 6:04 PM. Helped by Taylor.

My car has always been serviced with Nissan of Norfolk. 04/10/2015 I had front struts mounts and bearings repaired on the front end of my vehicle, which cost me around 800.00. The service guy did apply some type of discount so I agreed to this amount. Now almost 3 years later, I’m having the same Issue, same location on my vehicle . I called the service center to ask about OEM parts and warranty and was advised by a service manager Taylor that after market parts were used, it should’ve been used and the employees who did the work, no longer work there. Unsure of why she’s telling me that they are no longer employed because the company is still Nissan. She then told me that she would speak with her manager. After numerous callbacks to the service center I was told that aftermarket parts are not under warranty and there is nothing that can be done about this, however no where on my receipt states that I was not getting my original parts. I am so upset. I Understand that time had passed but as a loyal customer to this location(every oil change) and so fourth. This should’ve never happen. I paid for a service that wasn’t rendered. I’m now contacting corporate. I’m very disappointed
