Nice experience buying a car there

By Yang Da Peng Acupuncturist on 7/20/2018 at 8:14 PM. Helped by Kyle Harmon and Xiao Mi.

This is a late review for the experience of buying a car by Subaru Puente Hill in Hacienda Heights in March 2018. After my friend bought a Subaru car by other dealer, we stopped by this dealer to have a look of the car. We didn't set any appointment for that day. When we got there, Kyle Harmon friendly greeted us, showed us the cars and took us for a ride. He spent his time to explain us the advantage of this car and answered all the questions. He was so patient and knowledgeable. We decided to buy a car there. At the second time we got there, Mr. Li (Xiao Mi, who speaks Chinese, too) has helped us gone through the purchase process. Both Kyle Harmon and Mr. Li are very professional. It was nice experience to buy the car there. If other friends want to buy Subaru cars, definitely we will recommend them to this dealer. bait and switch happened to us to

By jgb7 on 7/16/2018 at 4:49 AM.

we were dealing with noel cerda on a lease price that got us in the door. but the day before we were to come in, he quits and has us work with emy. we came in and they said car would cost more because it was tinted and she didn't know this and our monthly payment would increase by $15. she was very stiff on this offer and said she couldn't honor what i spoke to noel about. we told her that's the reason we came in and that's what we wanted. we should have walked away and shopped elsewhere. total waste of time and dishonest dealership. we will never do business with this dealership on our next lease.

I would not recommend this dealer.

A Horrible agonizing Experience

By Gmigh on 12/26/2017 at 8:21 PM. Helped by Josh Teets,John Everett. Kevin Kim.

Puente Hills Subaru Review We have had a truly horrible and agonizing experience at Puente Hills Subaru. My closest friend and I were both in the market for new cars. She was interested in a Cross Trek and I was interested in purchasing a Forester. We went into Puente Hills Subaru together having decided that we would purchase her car first and if the deal was good and the experience positive I would commit to make my purchase with them when I was ready. The sales person who intercepted us upon our arrival was Richard. After discussing the features we wanted, we test drove a 2017 Cross trek. The model we drove came equipped with built in roadside assistance which includes a red emergency button with a direct link to 911. Since my friend was planning on taking some long trips alone this feature was very comforting to her and became a prime reason to buy a Cross Trek. When we started discussing price and color and decided on the Premium package- we asked repeatedly if this package came with the red emergency button. We were clearly told that it did. After going back out on the lot and looking at the vehicle we had chosen, we confirmed that it had the 911 feature. They also assured us that the Red button 911 feature would function for the life of the car without purchasing the Star Link yearly contract. We asked “are you sure” and were told “yes” repeatedly. After some long protracted negations with Richard and Josh Teets (a more senior sale person) concerning price and a fair trade in price for her 2012 Impreza, we were told that the vehicle we inspected was no longer available and had been sold. During these negotiations there were a couple of instances where both Josh and Richard became very excited, speaking to us with rudely raised voices. I had to ask them to calm down, lower their voices and treat us with respect. My friend was also interested in having a model with Android Auto. She has some problems with her vision and wanted her phone navigation to be displayed in a larger format on the counsel. Josh Teets suggested that he help us find an after- market head unit with Android Auto. We were concerned that this would void the factory warranty on the car. He assured several times that this would not and would not be a problem. Weeks later we found out from the dealership that this was on outright lie and that they would not be able to guarantee the warranty. After hours of this they found us a vehicle on the lot and assured us that this vehicle had the same features as the vehicle we had examined earlier. By the time they brought it around it was about 9 pm. We were exhausted and very hungry. I feel like this is a typical tactic dealers use to wear down the buyer so they can slip things by us. We did not have the opportunity to thoroughly inspect or test drive the vehicle we drove home. The shock came when my friend got home and discovered that the car did not have the red Star Link 911 emergency button that they had assured us it had, and that we had made clear was so important us. When we went back the next day and complained we were told that it was too late. We had signed and driven the car off the lot and there was nothing they could do. They apologized for the “misunderstanding.” Let me be clear, this was not a misunderstanding. We were explicitly told that the car we were purchasing had this feature. We were victims of a classic bait and switch maneuver. These are salespersons that will say anything they think you want to hear just to close a sale. Obviously they are more concerned with the vehicle they need to sell (what they need to move off the lot) than the vehicle that the buyer needs to purchase. My friend left numerous messages with Kevin Kim, the General Manager of Puente Hills Subaru, asking for a meeting to rectify this situation. It was not until she contacted Subaru corporate offices and told them what had happened to us that we got a response from Mr. Kim. This took a couple of more weeks. Finally, John Everett, the internet sales manager contacted us and we set up a meeting. The General Manager, Kevin Kim, John Everett, Josh Teets and he two of us were all at the meeting. Things seemed to start on a positive note. Kevin and John both apologized for the rude behavior we a had endured and assured us that the way our sale was conducted was not the way they like to do business. They both assured us that they wanted to take care of us and for us to leave as satisfied customers. When asked what this would take, we said that we would want to be able to get a vehicle with the features that we were originally told we were getting. They were respectful and encouraging throughout the meeting and we test drove a vehicle that fit our requirements. This all seemed very encouraging until we started talking numbers. Their idea of “taking care of us” and making up for our poor treatment was to ask us to pay an additional $6-7,000.00 to get a car with the features we originally were told we were buying. We felt this was outrageous and unacceptable. This had gone on for so long and we were desperate to resolve this agonizing situation. We met two other times and presented counter offers. These were not ideal, but were ones we felt we could live with. Each time they did not even come close to meeting our offers, despite the fact that we were told that they felt terrible about the way the sale went down and it is not the way they like to do business. These turned out to be empty words and neither of these managers were willing to take responsibility for the deceptive practices of their salesmen by backing up their stated concerns financially. They were still asking us to pay an outrageous amount for their shady sales maneuvers. Their offers would only benefit them but cost us greatly. Finally, we walked away. Our experience with Puente Hills Subaru was so humiliating, frustrating and agonizing that not only will we never go back to this dealer again but, I will never go to any Subaru dealership. This experience left me disgusted with Subaru. I gave up on my plans to purchase a Forester. I have recently purchased a Honda CRV and am very happy with it.

I would not recommend this dealer.

Dishonest Dealership

By Mad on 9/29/2017 at 12:50 AM. Helped by Mr. Li..

Our purchase experience: We were brought a price for the car we wanted. We thought that price was Ok. We were then asked if we would like to buy the Prestige package (coating applied to the interior and exterior) for a little more than a dollar per payment. On 48 months that would be $48 or a bit more. The monthly payment went up by less than two dollars.. When I looked closer at the contract later, the Prestige package had actually cost $1038 and had been included in the price before we were offered the Prestige package. I was able to get my money refunded to principle after about 3 months. I wonder how often they get away with this dishonest sales practice In response to the dealer response: Yes, while I signed a number of documents it does not change the fact that Mr. Li came back with a price and then specifically told us that the Prestige package would cost a little more than a dollar per payment. I may not have read documents as well as I should have but what was done was deliberate desperation

Bait and Switch

By TDSD on 6/14/2016 at 3:37 AM. Helped by Christian.

This dealership is mad shady. Bottom line: the manager refused to honor the agreed upon price for an Outback because we refused to buy a warranty from them. They tried to sell us a $1K warranty for $3K. Full story: We called 20+ dealerships in SoCal to get the best deal on an Outback. After a few back and forths, my husband and I agreed on a price with Christian over the phone, which was allegedly approved by the manager. We got better offers from other dealerships but this was the most convenient for us. Based on our phone agreement, we drove 100+ miles to sign paperwork and pick up the car. When we arrived, everyone was super nice and accommodating. We signed some paperwork and just needed the final figure to go to the bank for a cashier's check. That's when the bait and switch happened. Christian kept saying that he only agreed to the price because he thought that we would buy a warranty. But on the phone, he only asked whether we were open to buying a warranty, which of course we were interested. But we never discussed price or terms of the warranty. And when we got there, we knew that $3K was way overpriced. We were obviously furious when Christian said that they wouldn't honor the price that we had already agreed on. The manager was so incredibly rude. When we told him we got a better deal elsewhere and showed him written proof of the offers, he accused us of making up those quotes. So ridiculous. We obviously left but were furious for wasting 5+ hours of our time and being complete jerks. We bought our Outback two days later from South Coast Subaru without warranty. We have received quotes for as low as $900 for the warranty.

Honesty, Integrity, and Service

By korbis on 3/2/2015 at 9:58 AM. Helped by Joshua Teets, Victor, Lloyd.

Untouchable. I visited Puente Hills Subaru on 3 separate occasions, first to somewhat launch the start of my new vehicle research, coming by at some point throughout the meat and potatoes portion, and finally arriving at my conclusion. After considering many unique sports vehicles and then having test driven nearly all of them, I finally committed to a Subaru. Throughout my visits to the dealer, not once did I feel as if I had to make any decisions until I was ready to do so, and most certainly did I never feel as if I had to cater to anyone else's analyses but my own. For that matter, I took my sweet ass time by asking every possible question I could think of through text, phone, email, and in person. After all of that, then I asked some more. At an automotive dealership, the sales force is there to perform a basic, integral function relative to the business structure, just like every other department therein. The most transparent responsibility of sales is to keep inventory flowing out the door as rapidly and smoothly as possible. This generates revenue for the business, and the business can continue to do what it does. However, sales serve a greater function. After all, they are the all-important frontline that meets and greets the customer. Therefore they bear the greatest influence upon the single most important success factor for a dealership. At the end of the day, it's that vibe you get when you drive into the lot and walk onto the showroom floor, confidently knowing that you have endless yet earnest support at your fingertips. It’s that feeling you get. It's this feeling which is strictly determined by the atmosphere that sales creates - one that is open, inviting, comfortable, informational (factual), and trustworthy. At the end of the day, your balancing of logical sense with your gut feeling are what result in you being able to make the best decision possible when committing to something that is a necessity but also a desire. Josh is a huge reason why there’s an STi sitting in my garage. And it's not because he convinced me to buy it. It's because he provided me with all of the assistance I needed in making my own decision. Armed with nothing more sophisticated than an enthusiastic, patient, and honest character, Josh wholly nurtures the “right” atmosphere for success. And Josh isn't the only soul there with an abnormally high level of positive spirit. Every team member I've met to date at Puente Hills Subaru has exhibited nothing short of greatness. These special kinds of meetings are wide and far between when discussing the automotive industry, but really life in general. And when you stumble across these sorts of things, you would be wise to secure them. Go Josh. Go Puente Hills. Go SUBARU.

Teets and Tommy and my impossible deal

By 15Rex on 2/6/2015 at 3:20 AM. Helped by Joshua Teets and Tommy.

Currently i am going through a rough patch in my life. Divorce. I owned a 2013 Civic Si coupe with 26k on the odometer and some aftermarket wheels. I had gone to at least 6 other dealerships, including Carmax trying to get the best deal on my car. I needed this car gone so that i would not have to go to mediation over debt. I gave Joshua Teets "Goggles" a call. He assured me that i could get in a 2015 WRX. I decided to give it a shot. Josh and Tommy are very straight forward and do not beat around the bush. They are also very accommodating and very professional salesman. I was shocked to see my offer for my vehicle. The max blue book value with after market wheels and still got 16k. Shortly after that we talked numbers and closed the deal. The whole experience was one of the least stressful car purchases in my life. The family at Puente Hills Subaru are very friendly, not pushy, and will do all they can do in there power to get you in the vehicle you want and can afford. I highly recommend going in and seeing Josh Teets or Tommy, or any of the professionals that work at Puente Hills Subaru. They will make you confrontable and will not pressure you into a sale.

I would recommend this dealer.

Extremely poor customer service

By Zoey12 on 2/1/2015 at 1:14 PM. Helped by Frank Aparicio.

I called to talk to the salesman I had worked with in the past, Frank Aparicio. First time at the dealership was a pleasure but when I called to asked question about what Frank had offered me, he became rude and defensive. Just needed simple answers to simple questions. After being hung up on, I called back and was treated EXTREMELY rude,

Bait and switch, very pushy.

By eeks on 1/23/2015 at 1:55 AM. Helped by Patrick, Mike.

The internet sales people are very pushy, trying to get you to come into the dealership at any cost. I was lied to and told that they could beat a price that I presented so I drove 40 minutes to test drive and put a deposit down on the car (it was in transit). When I got there everything went smooth enough until suddenly the sales person I was talking to left and came back with a manager. Immediately the manager attempted to reset negotiations by starting back at MSRP (xxx??). After a short time of negotiations I decided to just leave because our numbers were nowhere near each other. Even when they finally came down to my price it wasn't what I was told via e-mail (that they would beat it). Garbage.

I took my mother in law to see Joshua Teets at Puente Hills Subaru to look at a new car for her. She wanted a Ford originally but i told her about the safety ratings and AWD standard on the Subaru and it peaked her interest. He was a HUGE help, got her into a brand new 2015 Forester and she LOVES it. He gave the best test drive, actually took us off road to show the cool features the new Subaru have. I will be going back to get my wife into a WRX in the near future and will be dealing with Josh Again Thank You Josh!!!

Great Salesman equals great service

By michelleanaya2012 on 8/15/2014 at 2:26 AM. Helped by Larry Wu.

We visited the dealer a week before we knew we were ready so that we could compare the Subaru WRX to another vehicle. He wasn't pushy and he understood what kind of vehicle we were looking for. When the time came to purchase the vehicle, Larry fought tooth and nail to get us the price that we wanted and the best deal possible. Larry is an easygoing, personable, and no-pressure salesman. The dealership was very fair and we hope that Larry is still there when we become interested in purchasing another Subaru. If he so happens to move dealerships, we would track him down. He is an asset to the team and deserves to be commended for his work. There needs to be more salesmen like him.

I had one of the easiest and straight-forward purchases here at Puente Hills Subaru. Lloyd Reese was my sales person and he was nothing but professional. The whole team including Sam, Aaron, Gina, and of course Lloyd accommodated my needs and I must say it was one the easiest transactions I have ever conducted. From picking which car I wanted all the way through financing the vehicle, the whole team made me feel at home throughout the process. I definitely recommend visiting this dealership if you are planning on picking up a Subaru. I'm very pleased with my car and will refer anyone who tells me they want a Subaru straight to Puente Hills.

By Faith012 on 2/12/2013 at 7:06 PM. Helped by Kat.

We went to Puente Hills Subaru looking to purchase an Impreza Sport. We spent hours there negotiating and finally reached a deal. Our sales woman, Kat, congratulated us on a deal being reached and shook our hands. We were happy. She left to run our credit. When she returned, somehow the deal had changed. They tried to up the monthly payment. We stood strong, demanding the deal we had already agreed upon. Next, they came back and had raised our down payment. Their excuse was that someone had made a mathematical error on their end. We told them that was not our fault; we had already reached an agreement. It was so underhanded and shady. They kept trying to jerk us around. Finally after hours wasted and unnecessary stress, we walked out. This was the worst car purchasing experience I have been through. Unethical dealership; extremely disappointed!

Be sure to do a search on "car salesman tricks"...

By mtbv on 2/11/2013 at 10:09 PM. Helped by Katrin, Fred, Wally.

Be sure to do a search on "car salesman tricks" before visiting Puente Hills Subaru. I saw a used Outback that they were selling and stopped by to check it out. I told the salesperson, Katrin, that I had my own financing and that I wouldn't want any "extras" that dealerships like to throw in. After the test drive, the used car sales manager, Fred, was in her office. I told him what I could afford at an out the door price, and it was a fairly low offer, I wasn't expecting them to take it but figured I would ask. He asked if I would be interested in financing it through them if they could get me a better rate. The red flag went up here because this is where paperwork gets tricky and the price of the car would magically go up. I took him up on the offer, I was just more cautious should anything out of the ordinary come about...and it did. Fred left taking my blank check from my bank (Watch out for this, common trick with dealers) Another floor manager (Wally from what I was told later) came in with the finance offer. I spotted "Gap" and "Warranty" at the bottom of the paperwork right away and also so a payment $100 high than what my bank was offering and my bank had a shorter term, and the interest rate was no better. They were trying to "sneak in" extras that I not only didn't ask for, but also told Katrin ahead of time that I was not interested in. I told Wally what I had to spend that I had no interest in their financing and if they couldn't accept my offer than just to tell me that they couldn't accept my offer. Had they just done this to begin with I probably would have checked out another car on their lot. I hate haggling and Wally kept trying to get me to go higher on the price. I got tired of it and asked my check back so I could leave...he still kept trying to haggle. I asked several times to get my check back (I lost count) and he finally left. Katrin came back with my check, I left and as I was leaving she was insistent that I come back inside and Fred could get me the price I was offering. I told her to have him call me...it was getting late and I had to leave. Fred called me while I was driving back and through out a price that was still $1000 more than what I offered and I told him no and that all they have to do is tell me they can't take my offer rather than doing this haggling. He told me I was a difficult customer. I'm not sure how he meant that, but I certainly didn't take it as a compliment and I wrote the General Manager, Rafeh, a lengthy email about my experience and how I was treated. I told him I would give him 7 days to respond along with written apologies from Wally and Fred prior to giving any negative reviews (people should have a chance to right their wrongs). Other than getting a call from Aaron trying to sell me the car at still a higher price than what I was offering, I have heard nothing from the Manager...so here's my negative review. They lost points for taking my check and not returning it right away when asked, messing around with the financing, calling me "difficult", pressuring me into trying to buy the car and for the manager never responding to me. Maybe this was an off day for them, but I have a feeling a lot of people get scammed into their sneaky ways but don't realize it or just figure it is expected of a car dealership. If you're doing things their way with financing, warranties, etc. I'm sure you won't have any problems at all with them. Just make sure you do your research and walk out if you start to feel uncomfortable.

I would not recommend this dealer.

We bought our car at Puente Hills Subaru, the experience at the time wasn't bad but now we are in Florida and are not able to get the car licensed, and cannot drive it now for 4 weeks. We bought the car in April and still they say it might be a month to get the info to us. We are ready to have the car repossessed. The dealership is no help at all!!! They stink!! Don't know what they are doing!! They lie!!! The salesman was great, the title and finance people don't know their business and just make promises they don't keep. No-one knows what to do, we are consulting a lawyer, don't know what else to do. This has greatly affected our love of our Subaru, probably won't get another one after we get done dealing with this!!!

They were the easiest guys that I have ever bought a car from. They worked with us on the price and helped get my daughter a great financing rate. This was her first time buying a car and they were exceptionally nice and helpful to her. When we went to pic up the car the next day, not only was it ready to go, but they actually threw in a couple of little extras as a surprise. Tonight they called to make sure shes happy with everything and to let her know to call if anything came up. I would absolutely recommend these guys to anyone looking for a new or used car.

By lavandelove on 11/22/2011 at 11:27 PM. Helped by Floyd.

We were sold a lemon car. Despite the defects we noted at the dealership, Floyd made the bold claim that all defects on the car will be taken care of. "Just send me the invoice, and I'll take care of it", he said. Of course, like a true car salesman, none of his claims turned out to have any bases at all. It was impossible to get ahold on him, and when we finally did, he went back on his words and claimed that he never said such a thing. Avoid them like a plague, they sell lemon cars, and no customer service at all to help you out afterwards.

By zareeba on 3/20/2011 at 3:15 PM. Helped by Logan Clark.

Contacted all of the southern California Subaru dealers via email looking for the best price on a 2011 Subaru Outback. Most of the other dealers were slow to respond, and when they did, it was usually with a so-so price. Logan at Puente Hills Subaru was always very quick to respond to email & gave me the best price up front. Didn't waste a bunch of my time haggling over the price. I ended up ordering the exact car I wanted & brought it home yesterday. This was an excellent, low-stress, car buying experience. Not only that, but this dealership has the biggest inventory around and a nice customer waiting area (handy with kids in tow). I will certainly return to this dealer for future Subaru purchases!
