Love my car, can do without the sales/service team.

By Joe Mack on 1/2/2018 at 4:32 PM. Helped by Cody Bakr, Joseph Riddle.

Here is the listing of complaints I have with my buying experience with Pugi. To start, it took them 4.5 hours, to complete the full transancation. Partly due to the Sales Manager, Cody Bakr not inputting any of the agreed upon sales information into the computer system. Next, they had no idea upon the agreed upon purchase price. I had to calculate and show them the agreed amount. Once done and agreed with staff, the paperwork went to finance, it was still wrong. I am currently calling every day to get a response, as I noticed it after the fact. They have not called me back or made any attempt to correct. Also, my trade in value was not matched as promised by Cody Bakr, who verbally told me they would as long as I showed the documentation from another dealership. Then, the salesmen noticed a half a tank of gas was missing and the navigational chip was not yet installed during a walk through of the vehicle. The salesman promised before we left these would be done. As we left the dealership, I noticed both of these were not done. The Pugi team has made no attempt to call/email me about these issues, specifically what is owed back to my due to their incorrect sales price of the vehicle. I would highly recommend anyone who deals with this team to strongly consider another dealership at this point.

I would not recommend this dealer.

Super great experience with sales people!!

By James Scholtz on 7/25/2017 at 5:36 PM. Helped by Matthew Goldstein.

I can't say enough about sales person Mathew Goldstein, friendly, knowledgeable, to-the-point, willing to go the extra mile. I came in to see a specific car but drove a couple of other models. I also had a trade but also had KBB, NADA book prices. I didn't have to haggle over price because they had the lowest $ from Car Gurus. Matt made getting the car such a pleasurable experience as it should be. I was also on a time crunch and Matt accommodated me to the extreme - although it was a cash deal. I can't say enough about Matt's knowledge about the process, inventory and willingness to make the process fast. He is a fantastic salesman but also very truthful and sincere. I will do business with Pugi again because of him. Thanks again. Jim Scholtz.

I would recommend this dealer.

Great experience buying a car

By srice on 7/25/2017 at 9:33 PM. Helped by Erick Barraza.

I went to Pugi Hyundai to get an oil change and found myself on the Mazda showroom floor while waiting. I had absolutely no intention of buying a car that day. Erick took us on a test drive and the car (CX-5) blew me away. I still wasn't prepared in any way to pull the trigger but wanted to at least find out a little more about pricing. Erick was very patient with me through the whole process and before I knew it, we were talking about the pricing of the car I just test drove. What?! I came in for an oil change! Yet- I didn't feel pressured. I had done my research, I knew I *wanted* a new car but I didn't need one. Speaking logically about the purchase, Erick sold me on the car. He stayed until after the place closed to make sure I went on my way in one piece. Great experience.

I would recommend this dealer.

Lower rocker arm recall, inspection and repair

By mikesc on 3/7/2017 at 5:31 PM. Helped by Joel.

The service provided was outstanding. Joel walked me through the repair sequence and the timing involved to complete the work. He called later in the day to inform me during the full circle inspection they found a leak in the transfer case breather vent assembly and repaired it since it was under an extended warranty. I previously notice three drops of fluid on the garage floor but did not see it again, so I chose to ignore it when I brought the car in and did not mention it.

Extreme Unprofessionals!

By Yury Polikanov on 2/22/2017 at 6:03 AM. Helped by John Pearson, Joel Zavaleta.

Extreme Unprofessionals! Three weeks ago I wrote a review in which I called this dealership a "money-making machine", because I brought-in the 7-year-old Mazda CX-7 with with the "check engine" light on, they charged me $350 for diagnostics, haven't fixed anything and made me a great favour by offering $500 for this car. Now I would like to state that in addition to being a money-making machine PUGI Mazda is a bunch of EXTREME UNPROFESSIONALS who cares only about their revenues. So, after that experience my story continued... Everything happened within several days, but I am writing about it now, which is two weeks after. I took my car to the private mechanic in Naperville where I live, it took him one day to figure out the problem - it was a clogged injector. He changed the injector and now the car is up and running even better then before. The private mechanic charged me $370 for parts and labor (almost the same as PUGI Mazda charged me for literally nothing). My mechanic also confirmed (what PUGI Mazda stated) that the compression was slightly lower in the 3rd cylinder. However, the mechanic said that it was rather a very small loss in compression, and that he won't believe that such a small drop in compression would cause such a serious misfire in the cylinder. Obviously the leaks from the gasket cannot be the reason for the misfire specifically in the 3rd cylinder! It was simply a bad injector. And if technicians from PUGI Mazda would at least read Mazda forums, they would see that this is a common problem with Mazda Engines, that their injectors basically are very bad! What I find extremely unprofessional here is that PUGI MAzda didn't even attempt to try to find what was the problem. They just said that the car needs new engine for $12,000 or "we will take it from you for $500". If you look for how much they sell the same cars, you will see that it is around $8,000-10,000. Obviously, we cannot exclude that they didn't even try to fix my car hoping to get it for nothing and then sell it for around $9,000. Can you imagine? I find it really mean and disgusting that PUGI Mazda are saying that they are professionals, and playing that card all the time, but indeed they care only about their money and could not even solve a problem that seems to be super simple for any private mechanic. To conclude, if your Mazda is out of warranty and if you do not have extra money that you have no idea how to spend, don't be an idiot and don't go to PUGI Mazda, as well as any other Mazda dealership for repairs! Find a private mechanic near you, who will be able to fix your car way much better (and also cheaper). There is a very important thing in business called reputation and it seems that dealers completely forgot about it. Loss of reputation is more detrimental than loss of financial revenue. Small private car shops always cared about their reputation... Think about it! P.S. If you think that I am not a real person and writing this review intentionally, I would say that I am a real person, you can always google my name and see who I am and what I am doing - I am not connected to cars at all, I am a professor at the university who is doing research in molecular biology. And yes, I am writing this review very intentionally, so that you would not get in the same unfortunate situation as I! Good luck!

I spoke with Matthew Goldstein and his manager Bill about a car that was for sale. Set appointment for me and my daughter to look at it, My daughters first car , she was very excited after seeing it on line. Matt and his manager said they had it out front waiting for us. We traveled 40 miles only to find out they sold it within that 45 minute trip. That is BS. I will NEVER buy From PUGI--- BS again!!!!! It all worked out. We found a great car down the street at Bill Kay Buick with some honest people!

Quality product but incompetent staff

By shpsmrt on 12/8/2015 at 1:58 PM. Helped by Bob.

If you plan on financing your car, make sure that you know exactly what you are getting before you sit down with the financial specialist. They told me I would get 0% apr for 60mo for the price we negotiated. However, when we sat down with the financial specialist that quickly became a you take the msrp price with 0% apr or the negotiated down price with 5% APR. Luckily I had a check from my bank at 2% that I was able to use, otherwise I would have got up and left right there and then; wasting 5 hrs of my day. Not to mention that the financial specialist is a complete jerk who was trying to rush me out the door. There are also small things such as the car wash they told me about. I specifically asked if they used an automated system with brushes and they said no. Bought the car and came back in a week, was laughed off for asking for a brush-less wash. I'm sorry for not wanting to put my brand new car through a rock throwing machine. They also told me I would get a free seriousxm membership for 6 months but it expired in 3 weeks. I don't like seriousxm so I don't mind, but that doesn't change the fact that they lied to me.

First new car bought! Our sales person rocked!

By L & S on 11/2/2015 at 6:26 PM. Helped by Joseph Lyons.

This past weekend was my first time buying a brand new car and Pugi made it a great experience! Our sales person was Joseph Lyons. He normally deals with online sales but he didn't hesitate to assist us on the sales floor. He was personable, humorous, patient, easy to get along with, he worked with us and our budget, he answered our questions honestly and never pressured us. We stopped at a few other dealerships before this one and this was the most pleasant experience out of all of them, which made our decision even easier. We highly recommend going to Pugi if you want great customer service and a reliable great looking vehicle. We also give Joseph Lyons the highest rating possible! He made this important decision come together perfectly!

Amazing First Time Buying Experience

By Cara418 on 7/28/2015 at 3:45 PM. Helped by Jesse Sanchez , Mike Kabak, Parnell Palmer.

This past weekend was my first time buying a car and Pugi made it a great experience! I had been talking to my salesman Jesse for a months about purchasing a Mazda 3. He's been very patient and kept constant contact with me the entire time over the course of the past few months. When my mom and I walked into the dealership, he immediately grabbed the exact car I was looking for and had it waiting for us. He was very honest and never pressured us. Mike the finance guy was really nice also and was also pretty honest with us about how much I would be paying. Also, if you want competitive pricing on your car insurance I would suggest talking to the Allstate representitive they have on hand there named Parnell. He was extremely nice, knowledgeable and gave us really great information about changing my policy. I was expecting to be stuck there all day, but surprisingly we were only there for a few hours. Most dealerships are shady and require you not to expect much out of them, but I was extremely happy with my experience at Pugi and I highly recommend going there if you want to purchase a Mazda!

First Service visit on car that was purchased here. BEWARE!

By Mazda on 6/5/2015 at 5:10 PM. Helped by Service advisor Joel and service manager John.

I came in for my first service visit. Since I purchased my car there in march I was told that oil change and tire rotation is for free. I was greeted by Joel the service advisor. I told him I am here for my first oil change and I had purchase the car here in march. He said great that the first visit the oil change is on the house but I have to pay for the tire rotation on the car for $19.99 since it is not cover. I thought it was weird because a few days earlier the girl at the dealership said both oil and rotation is for free. I didn't want to argue with Joel so I decline the tire rotation. Later on I called back and talk to the service manager John and not once was he apologized for the mistake. So please future customers please be aware or you will be taken advantage of

Far More Than Above and Beyond

By uminchu on 4/24/2015 at 4:46 PM. Helped by Matt Goldstein, Mike Kabak, Kiwon Kim, Mike Mizwicki.

I apologize in advance if this is excessively verbose, this will be a long read. I've read numerous reviews. Products, restaurants, home repair, vacation rentals, cellular providers, phone apps, car dealers, you name it. At the very least, hundreds, probably thousands. Far too many to remember. I've never written one, until now. I feel that my recent experience with Pugi Mazda and the individuals involved in my episode more than merit that others should hear. Maybe even demands it. This was my second purchase from a Pugi dealership. My prior purchase from Pugi VW went smoothly, friendly, and quickly. Zero pressure. Easy, friendly negotiation led to an excellent price, and their offer for my trade was more than fair. Even the finance office was a breeze. A positive experience all around, I was happy to recommend Pugi to anyone who asked. All those things applied to my recent purchase as well. I generally dread car dealerships. I've lived and suffered through some of the stereotypical horror stories we all hear about, but in my experience, Pugi just isn't like that at all. My first purchase makes for a nice anecdote. Twice is no fluke. Pugi Mazda did not have the trim/color/interior combo in stock that I asked for, but they located one nearby and traded for it. I arrived on a Tuesday evening to complete the deal, and everything went great, just like the last time. I took delivery and drove the car home. The next day (Wednesday), while showing the car to a friend, I noticed a nasty dent right up against the sunroof that I had missed the night before. There metal was creased and the paint was chipped. Immediate dread. All I could hear in my head was "Uh oh..." (not quite the exact words I was thinking). I went straight back to the dealer, and there was much discussion and uncertainty as to what might've happened and the next course of action. I was insistent that the damage had not occurred in my possession, but even I could gather that while I was telling the truth, of course anyone would say that, regardless. The sales manager, Kiwon Kim, was very calm and very friendly, and offered to fix any and all damage. I replied that I didn't want a repaired car, I wanted a new, pristine one. We discussed that for awhile, and Mr Kim said he simply did not have the authority to approve it on his own. Further, the general manager was away on business and would not be available until Friday at the earliest (this was still Wednesday evening). The owner was currently out of the country altogether. The voices in my head all said "Uh oh..." (well, not quite). The next morning (Thursday), Mr Kim called back and told me that he'd spoken by phone with the general manager, and they were going to replace the car. I said, "Wow, really?!", and he repeated it, just as calm and warm and friendly as could possibly be. The only problem was that they couldn't find a car locally that exactly matched my purchase. There might be one up in Green Bay, or would I be willing to substitute another color. I asked him to please check on the one that matched. He replied that was no problem, but should it work out, would I be ok with the extra miles on the odometer after driving the car back to Chicagoland. I said no problem, he said he'd get back to me asap. Mr Kim called back within an hour to say that that the Green Bay dealer had actually traded that car to a dealer in the Chicago area, and I could have it that afternoon. Not only that, it had been transported by truck, no excess miles. Wow. I returned a few minutes after 4pm. The car was ready. Back into the finance office to nullify the old docs and sign new ones, swap the plates, move my stuff, and I was out the door in the new car by 5, without ever being asked to spend another dime. It wasn't even Friday yet. For me, more than what these good, kind people did, more than the obvious happy ending, was they way they did it. Openly, calmly, always positive. With smiles and good will all around. And let's face it, I'd given my ok, signed the docs, and accepted delivery two days prior. They could have stopped at the cosmetic fix. They could have simply hung me out to dry. They did neither. They went all the way, made it whole, made it right. I have never experienced a commitment to customer service and satisfaction on this level. Everyone involved all said the same thing, that commitment to the client is instilled in everyone there, from the top down. That their owner, Mr Dominic Pugliani, is just one of those rare, special individuals, and that it's contagious. I've seen him many times in different visits, and I have noticed that he looks you right in the eye, and he is always smiling. So I guess I'm a believer, it's not just Koolaid. I would like to specifically thank: Matt Goldstein, sales consultant Mike Kapak, finance manager Kiwon Kim, sales manager Mike Mizwicki, general manager Dominic Pugliani, president Each and every one of these fine people walk the walk. Thank you all for teaching me to never again paint all car dealers with one single broad brush. I hope I'm set for cars for the next several years. But should the need arise, the first place I will visit will be a Pugi dealership. Based on personal experience, I doubt I will find any need to visit a second.

I would recommend this dealer.

These Guys Go Above and Beyond! Best Car Buying Experience!!

By jman on 3/20/2015 at 6:56 PM. Helped by Matt Goldstein and Mike Kabek.

I want to Thank Matt Goldstein (sales consultant) and Mike Kabek (finance manager) @ Pugi Mazda in Downers Grove, IL. Matt Goldstein went above and beyond all of my expectations! From the knowledgable information he shared with me about all the Mazda vehicles, test-drives and to meeting my needs on my trade in and giving me an amazing price on a brand new Mazda. There was NO pressure at all to purchase anything. In fact after our first test drive Matt asked me to take a day or so and think about the vehicle and the information he had shared with me. I left the dealership feeling like a friend was trying to help me :) Only to return a few hours later to purchase a new Mazda. Matt worked out an amazing price for me and met my trade in request no questions asked, throwing in discounts right and left! Thank you Matt Goldstein! I was then introduced to Mike Kabek (Finance Manager) Mike went over my credit with me and refused to give up until he had successfully gotten me approved for the best interest rate possible. Here is what Mike did for me... I am 25 years old and tend to jump from car to car having around 70K in loans over the past few years. With me being so young, lenders see this and don't want to lend me money. Mike refused to take no for an answer! He personally called the lender and discussed the situation, showing them that I have paid Back multiple loans for 30K+ never missing a payment. Once Mike had me approved for the loan, he didn't like the Interest rate the lender wanted so he had it practically cut in half!!! Long story short, Mike Kabek has been doing this longer than I have been alive and he knows what he is doing. Mike had me approved for my loan with an incredibly low APR. I don't know how to thank these guys enough!

First Oil Change, new 2014 Mazda5

By Banshee15 on 2/26/2015 at 4:38 AM. Helped by Joel A Zavaleta.

I'm not the greatest lover of going back to the original dealer for maintenance, but I needed my first oil change on my '14 Mazda5 minivan. I searched around and the recommended 0w20 synthetic oil was shockingly high at other oil change shops. So I just happened to check Pugi where I bought my minivan and they had a coupon that made it at least more palatable. Now I hate calling business phone systems, but somehow navigated my way through it. Also, they're not as convenient or fast as a closer oil change shop, but the service and extras (washed my car) as well check many of the important car systems made up for the extra travel and time limits of setting up an appointment. Coffee was available and my wait time was actually shorter than I expected. I'd strongly recommend Pugi Mazda for car buying and for car maintenance/service. Thanks Pugi for the great service. Also, I really love my minivan.
