"I'm not trying to rip you off!"

When Salesperson Gary said that for the 3rd time as I questioned the financing numbers, the second yellow flag went up. We'd already waited 20 minutes for the test drive car, despite communicating with Gary over a week and giving our arrival time. And when we returned from the test drive, and Gary insisted "turn in right here!" despite a truck blocking the driveway, there was a slight scrape under the front bumper as a result. We asked to have that buffed out and Gary said "No, that'll be $100". we say 'You're kidding, right?! How petty!' Gary says "if you break something in the store, you bought it." Our response "Not the stores we shop at!" Oh Gary, you just blew a $35K sale! What bad customer service. Any salesman would have closed right then & there...The correct response to 'buff it out' is "Of course, we'll take care of that right now (got 3 guys in the body shop) while we do our papers!" Squeezing us for $100...EVERYONE who hears that story is truly amazed. Gary, we went elsewhere for the identical car with a lease $21/month less that yours because you neglected to ask if we qualified for the loyalty discount...So 'Thank You, Gary!' You helped us find the best deal!

Bait and switch

Watch out for the bait and switch. Was quoted a price from the internet manager. Confirmed price. Went to purchase vehicle. Other manager said it was to low. Classic bait and switch. What's next? Take my car keys so I cant leave? Sleazy way of doing business. And if it was a incorrect quote they had multiple attempts to make me aware, but chose not. That way they can get you on the lot. Try Fremont Mazda, $200 they will beat a quote by!

I would not recommend this dealer.

I chose Putnam because they had a good reputation on google. I live 30 miles from them, but chose them over the one that is 3 blocks from my house specifically because I wanted a good purchasing experience. However, as soon as I started dealing with their internet manager Gary I got the same old runaround -- he wouldn't give me a quote that actually detailed what the dealer is selling the car for, only a vague monthly payment. Not a dealership that values transparency or customer experience, and not a dealership that is prepared for dealing with customers in a digital environment. Do not recommend.

Great service. Gary from sales made made it really easy purchasing a new car. He was very informative and kind. He was very detailed about the car and its features. Overall very helpful. He even offered us snacks.

A gem in the rough

I received a quote from Michael Yums on my Mazda 3 that I had to confirm with him more than twice to make sure there's no mistake as it was so much lower than others. In addition, Michael was the only dealer out of the 6 Mazda dealerships, ranging from Salinas to Tracy, who consistently negotiated with me on the price I told him I wanted, which was pretty low. He came back to me with quotes that beat everyone else (some haggling occurred here) and we were eventually able to close on a deal pretty quickly. With the numbers he gave me it was a no brainer; it was actually lower than I had expected. Even on my way to the dealership, I was expecting to encounter some unpleasant surprises but low and behold, that wasn't the case. I encountered a pleasant and easy going atmosphere, a clean dealership (you can tell the dealership is clean when the restrooms are well maintained), with coffee, tea and pastries for the customers in the waiting area. When I met Michael, he was very easy going and courteous and wasn't pushy; not your typical salesperson. It was a pleasure doing business with him. The finance part went by pretty quickly with some of the expected pressure, but no surprises there and it actually was quicker and smoother than I expected. Overall, I left the dealership after the purchase feeling good and not drained or stressed out as often occurs when buying a car. I highly recommend Putnam Mazda and Michael Yums!

I Love my new 2016 MX5!!

Michael Yums helped me from beginning to end with the purchase of my new MX5. He and all the staff at Putnam Burlingame were helpful, efficient and fast. I know I can call him with any further questions i may have. Having had such a good experience, I would definitely tell my friends to shop there!

Excellent Work Putnam Mazda!

My Mazda RX8 (2005 64K miles) was having typical problems for a rotary engine and would probably need a replacement engine.. Several dealers and mechanic's said they had too much work to be interested! or they felt they could not do the job justice. A rotary specialist (Beckstram Engineering, San Rafael) advised me to contact Putnam based on their reputation and as a dealer they would be able sort out any warrant issues. I'm glad I took his advice. I had the RX8 towed to Putnam where the performed a thorough diagnostic and sadly advised me that it did indeed need a new engine. Putnam told me the visible, invisible, and advisable work needed at this cars age. They promised to work with Mazda with regard to warranty issues. I told them to proceed but to let me know of unseen issues as they appeared. We worked together to set a timeline and Putnam was very accommodating. A week later the Service Advisor Mark D. (excellent follow-up and communication) called me to say the parts had arrived and the engine was out of the car. Mark advised me of what needed replacing and that as the engine was out it would be much less expensive to do them now as a single job than to do them individually. Meanwhile Michael A. the Service Manager was working as a customer advocate with Mazda who due to Michael's efforts were very accommodating. The RX8 was ready as promised, washed, new dent free, and  looking great. On the drive to the North Bay, the RX8 felt like a new car, rattle free, no warning lights, and practically silent engine noise, After a careful 1,000 miles of gentle  running in I'll see how it performs (Vroom, Vroom). As no review is perfect. The only problem I have is the headlining on the drivers side got a bit oily presumably with the mechanic starting stopping and revving the engine. Considering the size of the job this is understandable. So, Thanks very much Putnam Mazda, your work was Professional, Customer Centric,  Mechanically Focused, and Reasonably Priced. I will definitely return for service and maintenance. Thanks, N.

Pleasant experience from beginning to end

I had a '90 Honda Accord that was having endless problems and it was time for a new vehicle! I was very interested in the Mazda 3 isport sedan so I went online to receive a quote. I received one from Michael Yums at Putnam Mazda Burlingame that got me to walk into the dealership. He was very kind and pleasant that first day and showed me the Mazda 3 sedan. I never felt any pressure from Michael during my visit, he was friendly, informative, helpful and cheerful. I'm so happy that after a week and a half of my deciding what to do, can I afford this, that with my offered down payment, Michael showed me a monthly payment I could afford and agreed to for the Mazda 3! The one I wanted per the Deep Crystal Blue color was still there! I had a Mazda b3000 truck for a while years ago that I loved, and was hoping to be able to own a Mazda vehicle once again! I've had the car for 3 days now and I love and adore it! I'm so glad I had a very pleasant experience with Mazda Putnam from beginning to end when I rolled off the lot in my new ride :)

I bought a new Mazda 3 from Gary Gottloeb at Putnam Mazda in Burlingame, and it was an altogether positive experience. Gary is personable and honest, and genuinely takes pleasure in serving his customers well. I solicited several dealer bids, and Gary's was the most competitive. He answered all of our questions, provided information in a clear manner, and did not push options or upgrades on us. The process was smooth and straightforward. After we completed the deal, Gary walked us through the car's features, and he was truly excited for us. We drove the car home and have been enjoying it immensely. I highly recommend Gary Gottloeb to anyone looking to purchase a Mazda.
