Salesman Left Me Hanging

By achpiquon on 6/28/2017 at 3:59 PM. Helped by NONE!.

I came into this dealership about a month ago to purchase a new CHR, but once I mentioned to the salesman that I was a bit upside down in my current loan, he disappeared. I thought he was going to discuss the matter with a manager, and after waiting more than enough time for him to return, I got up to see where he was. He was working another deal with another customer, and never came back to tell me anything. I buy cars quite often to fix up for car shows and resell later, so that is why sometimes I owe more on a car than it is worth, but I don't think anyone should be left unattended without a viable explanation. If this is your interpretation of the motto, "We Treat You Right," then I am appalled that your business is in the Piedmont of NC! I will NEVER come back to this dealership and will tell others the same thing!!!

I would not recommend this dealer.

BEWARE!! DO NOT GO TO RICE TOYOTA!!!

By Erin R. on 6/25/2017 at 3:44 PM. Helped by Mary Rice.

BEWARE!! DO NOT GO TO RICE TOYOTA!! Let me start out by saying that I have been a loyal customer of Rice Toyota for 10 years. I bought my current car there 10 years ago and have spent a lot of money over the years with general maintenance and such. That being said, about a month ago I took my car in for a routine oil change/tire rotation and discovered, after I left, that my car key had a crack down the middle and the back of the key fell off when trying to start the car. I went back to the service department immediately and showed them my key. I was very nice and calm and explained that my key was not broken when I brought it in earlier, so it had to have broken while here. The guy that helped me was very nice and went to talk to the technician that worked on my car to see what happened. To make a very long story short, the technician denied breaking my key and said it was fine when he had it. The guy helping me told me that he would order me a new key and have the service manager call me the next day, since it was Sunday. I thanked him and left thinking everything was fine and they were going to replace my key no charge. Boy was I wrong!!! First off, the service manager did not call me back the next day. In fact, he didn't call me at all. I had to call him 3 days later and demand to speak with him. When he did finally call me back he didn't apologize for the inconvenience or trouble this caused me. He didn't even ask me what happened or asked my side of the story. He was very rude and immediately started quoting me a price for the new key they had ordered, which was over $200. I interrupted him and told him that I wasn't paying for the key b/c they broke it while I was there getting my oil changed. He then proceeded to say that he talked to the technician, that worked on my car, and he said my key was already broken when he got it. Now if you remember, from my earlier statement, the technician said the key was not broken when he worked on my car. Now his story has changed and it was broken. Obviously someone is lying and it's not me!!!! The following week I called EVERY DAY asking to speak with Mary Rice, the GM, to complain about the treatment I received. To this day she has not returned ANY of my calls and I am left with a broken key that I have to pay over $200 to replace. I have never in my life received such poor service!!! I will obviously never go back to Rice Toyota and will make sure that none of my family members or friends do either. Mary Rice and her staff should be ashamed of their actions!!!! They obviously do not care about loyalty or customer service. All they had to do was replace my key, THAT THEY BROKE, and it would've been all good. Instead they have chosen to ignore me and all my calls and have lost a customer of many years over a stupid key. You be the judge!!!

BAD Experience

By Rex on 9/24/2016 at 7:45 PM. Helped by PARTS.

Went to get a oil filter for 2010 Toyota Corolla. In place of 04152YZZA6(cartridge) they gave me a YZZA2(metal). Had to take the pain to get a new filter from another store when my mechanic told me the filter is not right fit for my car. When I went to return the filter the parts department told me the one they gave me is the right one...Really BADDDDD....Know what you want exactly before you buy the parts from them.

DAMAGED INTERIOR AND REFUSED TO MAKE REPAIRS

By tishj1971 on 6/30/2015 at 1:32 PM. Helped by Alan Fox.

I would never recommend Rice Toyota Collisions to anyone. I had the WORST experiences with this company. I took my vehicle in for hail damage and they tore up the interior of my car. I had to return my vehicle 3 times because repairs that was supposed to be made were not completed. The shop manager was very rude and unprofessional. He was angry that the repairs were not completed but directed his anger towards me. Instead of him apologizing and making things right, he raised his voice and said that there's nothing else I can do for you.

Paid for work they didn't perform!

By thimblena9 on 4/18/2014 at 2:48 PM. Helped by Clayton.

We have taken all of our cars to Rice's for service. I was suspicious long before my husband, because every time we took our cars to Rice's, some unexpected 'problem' came up, and cost us hundreds of dollars. We are furious that we have been lied to and taken advantage of for years!! Rice's will charge you for service that you do not need and they did not perform!!! Took our 2007 Camry to Rice's 4-14-2014 for oil change/tire rotation. (This model has a Technical Bulletin out on it for excessively burning oil. They refuse to stand behind their defective product and want to charge US $2800 to fix it). On our visit that day they wanted to add the 120,000 mile service (for $315), we opted to wait. Clayton called later to say they found oil leaking around valves and oil pan, and that the battery was going bad. We have been suspicious of Rice's for awhile now, and chose not to have the repairs done, just oil change/tire rotation. Upon picking it up, we drove directly to another automotive shop to have it checked out. They found no leaks and the battery was fine!! Also, they took an oil sample, and it turned out Rice's had either NEVER changed the oil or put used dirty oil in our car. Plus, the air filter was filthy - so filthy, the mechanic took a picture of it to show us!! We had him change the oil, even though we just paid Rice's $52 to change it the day before! He also told us that for $2800, Rice's was only going to put a band-aid on the oil issue, NOT fix it like they claimed! We called the Service Manager who denied any wrong doing and refused to refund our money. He did offer to 'do the service' again, but seeing as they didn't do it in the first place and we had it done right somewhere else, we said no. We will no longer be lied to and cheated by Rice Toyota Service or sales people. Their service advisers are friendly to your face, as they lie and cheat you with a smile. Don't be fooled, they will try to charge you for repairs that don't need done and service they haven't performed!!

By jameso70 on 1/11/2014 at 1:17 PM. Helped by Brock Clayton, David Netisiem, Mitch, Cameron.

I know Rice treats all their customers well, but they make me feel like I'm a VIP customer. I get phone calls returned, greetings when I arrive at the dealership and consideration about my needs. This last time and unscheduled replacement of my water pump was needed which would continue into late hours and a ride was arranged for me home by David and Brock. The ride with Cameron was very comfortable as to his driving and his company. I live far from the dealership and that was not even a consideration as they would take me wherever I needed to go. Later in the evening Mitch called me to inform me the car was repaired and they kept it overnight until I was able to pick it up in the morning. Brock made arrangements for me to leave our Prius in a parking space so we could get to some time sensitive jobs and later return to retrieve our Prius. Going to Rice Toyota is not only for service, but it couples as a visit and i enjoy my visits. And, oh boys, GO PATRIOTS! Jim O'Malley

By karshena on 9/17/2013 at 1:21 AM. Helped by Mary Curry.

Rice Collision Center did an TERRIBLE job on my car!! The GM Mary wants to blame EVERYONE else except her people for not fixing the car correctly and she lied to me about getting me into another car and making the situation right. I have a detailed review on YELP and Mary responded by not taking responsibility again. Here is my response: Mary, Thank you for your response to my review. So let's get this right..it is my insurance company's fault that Rice Collision Center did a TERRIBLE job on my repairs and I have had to take the car back SIX times to have the work that had already been paid for to be done correctly? Also, it is the fault of the professionals that installed my DVD players a YEAR ago that my airbag harness was pulled apart a month ago when Rice mechanics were the only ones that had touched the car in the past year? Is this correct? So tell me, whose fault is it that my Extended Service Warranty that I purchased with the car was cancelled without my knowledge and without a refund being issued? Maybe the tooth fairy did that. If you are really sorry, stop giving lip service and actually do something to fix these issues. Since you cancelled my warranty without my knowledge or permission and then stole my money..fix that..like right now today..if you are truly sorry.. RICE TOYOTA (Mary) WILL LIE, CHEAT, and STEAL from you!! There are too many Toyota dealerships in the area not to be valued as a customer. I just spoke to a former employee of Rice that now works for another dealership and they stated they had purchased 8 cars from Rice until MARY CURRY took over. They quit and will not purchase another car from the dealership. That speaks volumes to me. I know there are wonderful employees that mean well that work for Rice but management doesn't seem to care about the customers or the employees from what I have experienced and hearing. My advice..Cox Toyota and Modern Toyota will treat you right!

By pissedoffB on 9/28/2012 at 4:19 AM. Helped by John Michael/collision.

After speaking with John Michael about repairing my Corolla's rear bumper,I made an appointment & took my car to Greensboro.I live in Danville,so had to get a freiend to follow me & bring me home.My neighbors donkeys chewed the rear bumper & it needed to be replaced.Took the car on Monday 9/24/12 & picked it up today 9/27/12.They replaced the rear bumper. When I got there today I looked at the bumper & it was not put on right, rough edges & gaps on the left side & rough edge & wide gap on entire right side.Pointed this out to John Micheal & he seemed to realize they had done a lousy job of repair. He said he would go get Alan who was in charge of body shop.He looked at it & we all agreed it wasn't done right. They agreed to correct the problem & so I said I'd bring it Monday 10/1/12.After they agreed to fix the bumper I paid for the repairs & left.I live in Va.so it's very inconvenient trying to get there & leave the car.My friend was kind enough to follow me over & bring me back to pick up my car today.I was very upset that the car had not been repaired correctly, but when they agreed to correct it & give me a car to drive I was satisfied & went & paid the bill. When we were looking at the car the sun was on the front end & the rear was shaded. The paint job they did looked ok,so I left. When I stopped & got out of the car & looked at the rear bumper in sunlight it was obvious that the rear bumper was several shades lighter than the rest of the car.Could not call since it was after 6pm.I am furious! Will call John Michael Friday & advise him I want this car fixed right.I also will have a stop payment on the check I wrote until I'm satisfied the repair is done correctly.I was so happy with my experience at Rice until today & will never recommend it to anyone. There is no excuse for the lack of competient service from the collision dept & my car will be repaired correctly.

By AToyotaOwner on 9/6/2012 at 2:23 PM. Helped by Jason Leech.

On 8/7/2012 I took my 2007 Toyota Highlander Hybrid to Rice Toyota for its 65000 mile service (oil change/tire rotation). The work was done satisfactorily but when the representative gave me the bill he told me that they had discovered that the water pump was "visibly leaking" and that it was also leaking on the timing belt. Because it was under extended warranty he the $750.93 bill would only cost me $283.67 to replace the pump and timing chain. When I asked if it should be replaced immediately he said no, it could wait but it needed to be done. I decided to wait but came away with a feeling that it was a danger to me if I didn't do something soon. Well, I didn't drive the car much until I could get another opinion. The car had been bought at Modern Toyota and was only at Rice because of convenience. It had had its 60000 service done at Modern as well as every service since we bought the car new. I called the service manager at Modern, James Flippin, and told him that I had a major problem with the car identified by another dealer's service department but I wouldn't tell him what it was. He agreed to check the car over at no cost and did that on 9/7/ 2012. He and a mechanic went over the whole car and told me about some dry rot on the tires, a tiny transmission leak and a small discoloration on the water pump. His conclusion after all that and the mechanic driving the car: no safety problems. He said the transmission leak did not yet warrant action, they'd watch it and let me know. So, it appears Rice was reaching out to do work that didn't need to be done. Mr.Flippin even gave me a copy of the Toyota service recommendations, complete with color pictures, of water pump leaks and what they meant. The one on my car was entirely normal, according to Toyota. So watch out for Rice Toyota's service department. That kind of stuff costs car owner's a lot of money, needlessly spent, and contributes to the poor reputation some dealer's service departments have. I know I'll never go to Rice for any service work again. I won't buy a car from them either. (note: I'm going to make this a multiple website posting. I don't want others to trust this dealership.)

By mccohen72 on 8/24/2012 at 5:53 PM. Helped by Jameson, Neil, Susan.

After putting a down payment on a new car the dealership sold the car the same day to someone else. Sales Manager did not apologize until I personally asked him to do so. They were able to get us another car the following day. We spent 2 hours filling out paperwork and waiting for them to get the car washed and detailed, we eventually got our new car. However, the following day we were told they put the wrong VIN number on our paperwork and we had to resign paperwork again. This time when we went in to resign paperwork, nobody apologized or showed any concern for their error. They acted as if we were creating an inconvenience for them. We left without a word spoken to us. Very bad impression of the entire dealership and car buying process. We actually had to go to the dealership 4 times for them to get everything correct. We had purchased from Rice Toyota in the past but this will be the last time.

This dealership is great!! I had been dealing with another local dealer who I feel insulted my intelligence because I am a woman. Just tell me the truth. So I called Rice Toyota who is only 30 minutes down the road and was given a much better deal over the phone and the car was ready for me the next day without even meeting me. I cannot say enough good things about my experience with everyone at this dealership. I would HIGHLY recommend this dealer.

By larry0713 on 1/23/2012 at 1:58 PM. Helped by General Manager.

While I was driving it near the Rice dealership, the gear shift lever on my 2003 Tundra broke, and I pulled into into their service bay. I surrendered my truck to the Rice service rep., with the automatic transmission in Drive; engine running. Upon receiving the repair cost estimate of nearly $900, I asked that the truck be returned to me in the condition which I surrendered it (engine running; in Drive). Initially, the service rep. agreed to do as I asked after I paid a diagnostic fee. I paid the fee. He disappeared, later returned and refused to return the vehicle, claiming liability issues. I offered to sign a statement absolving Rice of any liability. Again he refused, saying that the only way I could remove my un-repaired truck from their lot was to have it towed. Clearly the service rep. tried to do the right thing but was overruled. I complained to Mary Rice, who ignored me. So I called a tow truck. When it arrived, a mechanic showed the tow truck driver how the gears could still be shifted, even with the gearshift leaver broken. At my request, the tow truck operator removed my truck from the Rice lot then showed me what the mechanic showed him. He showed me that when the driver operates the (now broken) large gearshift lever, it moves a smaller lever on the steering column which in turn operates a cable, which changes the transmission gears. With the an exception of the large lever, all of the parts required to change gears were intact and operating properly. And the driver could easily and safely change to and from all transmission gear positions by moving the small lever with his fingers. All other controls on the steering column (lights, turn signals, wipers) were working properly, as were the brake pedal safety features. The absence of the large lever did not make changing gears less safe; only less convenient. Slightly! I drove the truck to another mechanic who fixed the problem for over $300 less than Rice quoted
