Approved but Not Approved

By esakb99 on 2/20/2017 at 4:34 PM. Helped by Andrew.

We received a letter in the mail stating that we were pre-approved for an auto loan with Sam Leman of Peoria. We didn't need a new car, but decided to check it out anyway. Called the number on the letter and spoke with Andrew at Sam Leman who informed us we were pre-approved for $22,000. Went in later that day and met with him. After running credit and all that, he came back to tell us we needed at least $1000 down. So we decided to trade in a vehicle and add some cash. Got a verbal trade in amount on the vehicle, but when we went in to finish the deal were told they decided they could only give us wholesale for the vehicle. Still willing to work with them, but then they started showing us old vehicles with high miles and high pricetags. Finally just told them it seemed they were not going to be able to sell us what we wanted and left. It really felt like they were just trying to take advantage of us. We ended up going to a different dealer, got a better vehicle for a lower price.

I would not recommend this dealer.

Easy transaction, helpful service

By Satisfiedcustomer on 1/27/2017 at 7:42 PM. Helped by Tom Taylor.

My wife and I found a vehicle on the Internet for sale at Lehmans Auto in Peoria. Tom Taylor met us at the door and arranged for us to drive the car. It was just what we were looking for and the Internet price was very good. We went ahead with the transaction with no need to haggle. Tom made the whole procedure pleasant and was as helpful as can be. Our experience with Tom and Lehmans made the two hour drive we'll worth the trip.

I would recommend this dealer.

Deceiving, Corrupt, Bribery

By Concerned Parents on 1/4/2015 at 8:00 PM. Helped by Chuck King.

Run as fast as you can and don't look back. Our children found the SUV with everything they were looking for at Sam Lehman in Bloomington IL. Thursday 1/1/2015 an appointment was made for them to come purchase this SUV on Saturday 1/3/2015. Over the next two days a salesman from their other dealership in Peoria, IL communicated back and forth several times that he had a buyer for the vehicle they were bringing with them to trade. He stated that since he found a buyer already that our children would be offered more money for their trade. It was said to him several times " if you have sold my trade for me but the SUV we are buying is at your other lot then which lot do I come to?" He stated it was best to come to his lot and he would go get the SUV. The first time he said he would have it waiting in Peoria when they arrived. The second time he said he could go get it once they arrived. In the mean time the other salesman from Bloomington called and asked for a deposit on the SUV because someone else may want it. The salesman in Peoria assured us that the other salesman was just trying to bribe us and that he had no authority to do that and assured our children to come and the SUV would be there for the purchase. Our children which are grown and married now (late 20's) traveled 750 miles to buy a vehicle that was agreed on at Sam Leman. Spoke with the dealership 3 times during the morning travel there.. Confirming arrival time and the vehicle of purchase etc. Once they arrived at the dealership at 1pm they sit for an hour and half waiting on the checkout/deal process. The salesman came by the office several times to assure it wouldn't be much longer and the managers were just finishing up the paperwork and working on the out of state taxes. Offered them something to drink while they waited. (We are on Skype the whole time back home incase our children had any questions while making a big purchase so far from home). Some more time goes by and the salesman comes back in and says sorry guys but one of our other dealerships sold the vehicle you were getting at 9:30 this morning. Then said I can try to find you one similar. He even pulled another SUV up and said what about this one? Sorry but why travel that far to get something they didn't want? I think he thought if he could just get them there after traveling that far then surely they would buy something. No managers came out to apologize or anything. I am not sure if they were even aware of this dirty deal but if they were then they are all just as ridiculous. I would not send my worst enemy there or ever wish this upon anyone. We are sad to see our children were victims of such filthy con artists.

I would not recommend this dealer.

My daughter neded a new car; she had looked at Hondas,...

By CPELWYN on 4/6/2012 at 2:27 PM. Helped by Manuel Bailey.

My daughter neded a new car; she had looked at Hondas, Mazdas - but not yet at the Chrysler 200. I accompanied her on a test drive - and she decided - as far as "desirability" goes - it was at the top of her list. But how about affordability? She's a single Mom and is on a tight budget - she knew she had a limit of about $200 a month. To make a long story short, Manny (Manuel Bailey) put a little bit extra into her trade-in, and Dad put in a little cash himself, and my daughter is now driving her preferred choice for $219/month. And she loves it. At the end of the day, it's a lot of car for the money. That's one story...; but there's another. I had a 2011 Wrangler; only had 4000 miles on it and I loved it. The "oil change" light came on - and since I'm a reasonably good mechanic myself, I drained and refilled the crankcase and installed a new oil filter. I started it up, checked for leaks - and parked in it the garage - preferring to drive my motorcycle whenever the weather allows. Several days later, I get a bit of an emergency phone call from a friend and I jump into the Jeep to respond. Within a couple of miles, the "oil pressure" light comes on. I was close to a quick-lube place - so I pulled in. Not knowing what was wrong (and yet suspecting the filter), I asked them to perform another service on the engine. Quickly... Remember, I was in a hurry. I drove away thinking I could still get where I needed to be when the engine began ticking, then knocking - and by the time I got back home - clunking. I called the dealership the next morning - and we decided it would be best to have it towed in. Two days later, I get a call that says a.) I needed a new engine; and b.) it was not going to be covered by warranty. I'd have to come up with the $6,000 for a new engine out-of-pocket. The Service Department's theory was that when I had changed the filter, the gasket from the old filter had stuck in place - and the gasket from the new filter then failed to seal. (Remember, I had started it up to check for leaks - and had none; maybe I didn't let it run long enough...?). And there was fresh oil and yet another new filter in place by now. I couldn't prove that I didn't screw it up (and in truth, I myself began to wonder if I had) - so I thought about the options. First, I wondered who the dealership was trying to protect and represent? Chrysler? The dealership? Certainly not me; the last thing I wanted to do was be liable for a $6000 repair. Should I deny, deny, deny...? Not knowing what to do, I prayed. If you don't know God, that will make no sense to you, but my life being what it is, I speak to Him all the time. I don't always get the answer I want, but I do get the answer I need. Anyway, whilst dealing with Manny for my daughter's new car, we explored the options for me. I ended up in yet another Chrysler 200 - and all of the sales incentives went to pay for the repair bill on the Jeep. Ain't exactly how I wished it would have worked out, 'cause I loved the Jeep - but, what the heck, I've got a new car. So I left that day with two new 200's - one a touring model that my daughter drives, and a 200S that's mine. I'm liking it better all of the time. (The disappointment of giving up my Jeep has slowly been replaced with the realization that I've got one cool car.) I also left with a sense of gratitude to Manny Bailey. Yeah, he got to sell two new cars, and yeah, that's what he's in business for...; but, at the end of the day, he helped me. And I'm grateful for that. Mostly, I'm grateful to the mechanics in the Service Department - the ones who wondered about a guy who could have lied (if necessary), stuck to his guns, and saved himself $6000 - and likely convinced the dealership to replace the engine under warranty. But the guy (me) didn't. Ain't no tribute to the guy - 'cause he (me) did think about doing just that. The glory goes to God. HE knew I'd be tempted, and He also knew what I would ultimately do; I was the one who didn't know what I would do - and I was the one who needed to learn. The reason I'm grateful to the mechanics is because I promised Manny that - someday_ I would tell them where the guy (me) found the courage to do what was painful at the time, but also the truth. Now they know. Thanks, Manny - you know how much I think of you. Most of all, thanks, God. And Thanks "SAM LEMAN". You have my permission to use this however you see fit - as long as you don't edit it; and you must tell the mechanics this story. If they still are in doubt - I'll come to speak to them in person.

I would recommend this dealer.
