Upselling. Lied about warranty. I was sold one, then had it remove, then lied to about it's removal. Still fighting it, Poorly handled. Dishonest sales team. Don't shop here.

Walser Subaru didn't want my business...

By Steve McFarlan on 10/16/2017 at 8:53 PM. Helped by Would love to, but didn't have an opportunity to talk with any of your fine sales people..

I had done all of the research, and knew exactly what I wanted when I walked into the Walser Subaru dealership about an hour ago. Nobody jumped on me when I walked in, and I liked that - as I really wanted the time to sit in the vehicle and check it out. When I was finished checking it out I was ready to buy a brand new Subaru Outback. The vehicle was right next to the sales desk, and I stood there for about 15 minutes waiting for someone to help me. I think pretty much everybody at the desk notice me, and three sales guys actually made eye contact with me, and every one of them looked away immediately. Not sure if I didn't look like a "buyer", or if they were just too darn busy discussing the details of their day off. I really felt like my business was not important to them, and will be heading to Bloomington Subaru tomorrow to see if they will take my money. Walser sales people used to be overly pushy, and I'm speaking from experience - as at one time I sold for them. Back then if you didn't recite their "Walser Way" script (word for word) - you would be meeting with the GM at the end of the day. Things have definitely changed within the Walser organization, and maybe we could be somewhere in the middle guys?

I would not recommend this dealer.

Never coming back again!

By TCARZ on 10/4/2017 at 5:35 PM. Helped by Jean P Moua, Christopher Path.

I brought my Forester in because the door switch wasn't working. My ignition light didnt come on and the "keys left in ignition chime" didn't activate. My courtesy lights didn't come on, when I opened the door, either. It took them 1.5 hrs to diagnose the problem for $99 plus tax. The door switch was missing! Then they proceeded to tell me that my 2011 Forester didn't have an ignition light (it does and I told them so, but they insisted that it didnt). They said that the "keys are left in the ignition" chime only activates when the ignition is on. Ridiculous! I have proof of their ignorance. They even wrote it down on my work order. They treated me like I knew nothing, when in reality, I seemed to know more than they did about my car. Then they tried to talk me out of ordering a new door switch, saying that I could use the key fob to get the courtesy lights to come on. Since I insisted on ordering a new door switch, they told me that it would cost $233 plus tax and shipping to install it. I called another Subaru dealer (Luthers) and the price was $99 installed. Why such a big difference? Well I ended up buying the part, for a few bucks, at an auto parts dealer and it took all of 1 minute to install. Everything works great, now. I have bought new Subaru's from Morries and I thought that I'd try this dealer, because they were closer to me. My daughter bought a new Outback from Luther's Subaru. My other daughter is planning to buy a new Subaru next year. I guess that we know where we AREN'T going for our next new Subaru. WALSERS. Wish that I could have given them NO stars.

I would not recommend this dealer.

The Good and the Bad - and the negative survey impact

By SubaruBuyer on 9/15/2017 at 4:02 PM. Helped by --.

What you need to know: - Make an appointment to meet with a sales rep and test drive a car. At this dealership, and I've purchased 2 cars here and been many times with friends, if you don't have an appointment you will stand around and nobody will help you. It's actually part of the most maddening part of the experience. Generally a group of salesmen cluster at the desk chatting with each other and generally not doing anything productive that I can see. Save yourself some frustration and call ahead. - When you make that appointment above, insist they have the car you want to test drive ready for you. Or at least the same make & model. I tried to do this when I recently purchased. I told the person I'd called exactly what I wanted to test drive (I had very limited time). I was assured it would be ready. When I showed up at the lot I saw the note passed to the sales rep from whomever took my call. It only included my name and the time. No make, model, trim levels, color, etc. That wasted the first 20 minutes of my visit as I found out the car I wanted wasn't even on that lot. This is part of the process will negatively impact my survey, that I should receive soon. -The lot where they keep most of their cars isn't the one connected to the dealership. If you don't see what you want there - ask to be taken to the other much larger lot that is about 5 minutes away. - Second, know that you're going to pay based on how many days a car has been sitting on the lot. In other words, the white and silver and gray seem to cost less as the 'colors' go faster. If your heart is set on red or blue - expect anywhere a few hundred to close to $1000 more just for the color than you would if you could live white. Also, they predominately stock the lightest interior color. If you don't want ivory then you're going to pay more because there are few of those choices on the lot and presumably they go quicker - so the price is higher. - Ask for Sarah as sales person. She was professional, friendly, and low key. She respected each parameter we set (price range, options we wanted or didn't want) and the closing process was as described and didn't take hours and hour. I would use her again. -We didn't have to deal with a separate Finance guy - a huge plus. We applied for and received the financing through Subaru (who used Chase) and our sales person walked us through the papers. Nice! -The wasn't much pressure to by all the add-ons and up charges and warranties, although they were explained. I made it clear we weren't interested. That didn't stop the explanation of what they had (which is fine) but it did keep that useless upsell stage from dragging out needlessly. - Subaru surveys are crazy. Basically, anything but a 10 is a fail. To me, sales really works for the "10" rating, but they are let down by the rest of the crew. If you don't rate a 10 the salesperson suffers. And yet, questions all over the survey aren't applicable only to sales (e.g. the showroom). This is a rotten thing for Subaru to do to sales people but also to consumers. -Why go here in the first place? The one-price shopping experience is so much better. I REALLY shopped around and can say with confidence that their pricing on the new cars is also excellent - their used car pricing is high.

I would recommend this dealer.

Happy ending for a crabby car buyer !!!!!!☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️

By Gerri on 5/5/2017 at 1:31 PM. Helped by Kevin.

All I can say, is that I'd like to be ripping my toenail off my big toe in slow motion rather than looking for a car because I absolutely hate walking in the dealerships more than anything in the world ! I become the crabbiest human being on the face of the earth and I get defensive and angry the minute I'm there...because I'm always thinking someone is going to take advantage of me .... So.. KEVIN S. was the sales person and he was a very down-to-earth and a very genuine fellow that treated us with nothing but pure respect. He didn't have any of the "canned" comments that car salesmen( women...)... typically make and I felt he was extremely professional and " real" through the entire experience. Jamar was the manager and oddly enough he was just as nice as Kevin! He, too, was very professional but also very down to earth. Maybe the people reading these reviews enjoy going into dealerships but if you are at all like me and you hate the thought of having to deal with the experience, I would highly recommend going into this dealership and I would more than recommend seeing KEVIN and looking forward to seeing Jamar coming over shaking your hand and treating you as an integral part of the universe !!! It was nothing short of an excellent day ! Gerri Larson Stillwater Minnesota Ps-- yes we did buy a car !!!!💃💃🚗🚗🚗🚗🚗

I would recommend this dealer.

Sold a vehicle out from under me DURING my own deal!

By Upset Customer on 12/23/2016 at 7:27 PM. Helped by David Lavanger, Sean (Sales Manager), Robert (Sales Associate).

I cannot believe this! I was in the process of trying to complete an SUV purchase with this dealership, and all THEY needed to do was send a purchase agreement to my bank so the bank can cut the check for me to pick up and bring back to them. Things had gone well at the beginning of this whole process but then I was not getting an update on the purchase agreement. I was then told 10 more minutes by "Robert" in sales . The original salesman David Lavanger disappeared, and went off with another customer before finishing with me. I had to talk with the Sales Manager Sean to find out what was going on, only to be told they just sold the car. SERIOUSLY??? I’m literally waiting on YOU so we can finish this deal and you sell it out from under me? You are a “one price” store and I was paying full price. While talking with this sales manager Sean and trying to figure out what happened, his mannerism was as if what they did was completely ok/ethical. He really gave me the impression he didn’t give a hoot. Nope, he didn’t. He simply repeated “it’s not our policy to hold cars.” All they needed to do was send that purchase agreement so my bank could cut the check. This sale couldn’t have been any easier for them and they blew it. Needless to say I am not happy with Walser at all. Their slogan is “The Walser Way.” If this is really their “way,” I want nothing more to do with them again. Good luck if you decide to buy a car from them. Better hope you lock it down so they can’t sell it while you’re waiting on them to write up your agreement.

By Karl C. on 8/23/2015 at 2:54 PM. Helped by Charlie Leang.

We were asked if we needed assistance when we entered, but were left alone until we said yes we need help. Our salesman, Charlie Leang was very knowledgable and helpful. The Walser no haggle price was really good, and we placed an order for a Legacy 2.5i Premium. Charlie continued to provide us excellent service even after we had purchased the vehicle. I can recommend both Walser Subaru and Charlie Leang to anyone considering purchasing a Subaru.

By BMull on 4/3/2014 at 7:57 PM. Helped by Brian Samuels.

A++ By far, hands-down, no question the best car buying experience in my history of buying cars from a dealership (and I have done this 6 times). The price was non-negotiable because the price didn't need negotiating. I didn't get sold anything, I was asked if I wanted any other items and my answer of "no" was respected. The dealership was clean, people polite, and was able to have all of my questions answered quickly, concisely, and honestly. I purchased a 2014 XV Crosstrek with the help of Brian, who also had nothing but good things to say about his job since they aren't trained to "sell you" rather "help you" find what's right for your needs and budget. Again, very impressed. Not to mention, the lifetime power train warranty is a BIG plus! Go there. Buy a car. NOW!

I would recommend this dealer.

By lohs0021 on 8/30/2013 at 2:18 PM. Helped by Harry-Sales.

The process of buying the car went really great, everyone was nice/helpful. However, a week later I was having a couple of issues and called to ask what they could do. Basically, nothing. I was told they would look at it for free (acted like this was a big favor "normally costs $125", my mechanic would look at it for $19.95) and reminded me I bought it as-is. I know I didn't buy the extra warranty, but it was less than 7 days since I had bought the car and they repeated so many times during the sale how they did a 127 point inspection-they should have found this during the inspection. Had they just handled how they interacted with me when I had problems differently, I would have been much happier and not left with a negative experience. I decided to go to my regular mechanic to get it checked out since I am not very trusting of what they would tell me at this point

By GunnarBalstad on 6/11/2013 at 3:14 PM. Helped by J. Holmquist.

I made an appointment over the phone with a gentleman named Alex to drive a used WRX. I showed up for the appointment and expressed my desire to compare the Impreza against the Impreza WRX, as I have never driven a WRX. Three people were sitting at the front reception area, one girl around the age of 20, a man around the age of 35, and another man around 45. I was told by the 35 year old that “We don’t just let anybody drive the cars; you have to fill out a credit application to make sure you can afford the car first.” I am a thirty year old male that works downtown Minneapolis at a major bank, I make over 50k a year. At the time (6/10/2013) I was dressed in business attire as I just got off work. The gentleman turned to the receptionist and stated, “Put him on the waiting list.” I walked right out. I used to sell Volkswagens for Denny Hecker of all people, and I never saw anybody be treated in that way. I will never go to a Walser dealership, nor will I send anyone I know there. I will be buying a WRX within the next three weeks.

By vertical on 6/7/2013 at 2:23 AM. Helped by John "Harry" Racheal, Mynea (sp?).

I was very disappointed in the sales tactics of Walser Subaru. I was dealing on a used (2011)1/2 ton truck over the internet/phone and have never felt more uncomfortable with a transaction. I called at 9:00 AM inquiring about the truck. I had several questions such as: warranty details, condition of tires, non-smoker etc. My call was never returned. I called them back at 4:00 that afternoon and was told my inquiry "slipped through the cracks". I was then transferred to another salesperson that assured me she would answer all my questions promptly. Which she did. Then the whole deal took a turn for the worse. I am located 3 hours from this dealer and wanted to make sure I wasn't in for any surprises when I arrived. I had asked for a photo of the bed of the truck which the sales person provided (with some strategically placed floor mats). I was ok with the scratches in the bed of the truck, after all it is a used truck. What I am not ok with is the floor mats were placed to cover up the mounting holes from the 5th wheel hitch! The hitch was never disclosed in the advertising nor was ever mentioned by the sales staff until I asked. I feel if a 1/2 ton truck was used for heavy pulling, the customer should be told upfront and the dealership should advertise that the truck had this optional equipment installed and removed before someone considers a 3 hour drive to purchase.

I would not recommend this dealer.

By LDR58 on 6/3/2013 at 6:39 PM. Helped by Never had a chance, no one would help us..

I’m guessing with all these “excellent” reviews for this dealership, can only be coming from family/friends or themselves, because our experience was the polar opposite. We walked into this dealership on Saturday, June 1, after spending about 1 hour at the Walser Honda dealer, where they were so friendly and willing to help us. I was looking at the CRV, but wanted to compare it to the Forrester, so both Jesse and Darren (at Honda and were awesome) suggested we run over to Walser Subaru. We did….we walked the entire parking lot looking at the new cars, never saw one sales person in the lot. I did see a couple of Forrester’s out there, so we walked into the building, and found only 3 cars in the showroom, of course not a Forrester. We stood there for about 5 minutes, grabbed a cup of coffee, use the restroom, and stood again, not even a look our way. There were a few people being helped, but there were 5 employees sitting at the front desk (4 men and 1 woman). We walked up to them and interrupted their social chatter. We tried to make a joke about all the bikes sitting in the showroom (mind you, we’re in a car dealership, they had way more bikes then cars), saying if we buy a car do you get a bike, apparently that deal was over the day before, and the employee made that very clear (again, just a joke, we didn’t know about any bike deals). Not one of the 5 asked if we needed any help, we had to ask about the Forrester, and we were told by all of them, that they are sold out, even though I say a couple in the lot. I asked if there was one I could just sit in, and the answer was a blatant NO, that if I wanted to see one, I could go outside and look in the windows of one that was just sold. That’s all they had to offer!!! We asked if they had a shipment coming in…..we were told they are also all sold out!!! Give me a break! There was no attempt to suggest anything….not a thing. Like suggesting looking at a bit of a different model, that one could be ordered. I still intend to at least sit inside a Forrester, but I would stay clear of this dealership, absolutely horrible customer service. We walked out of there horribly disappointed, and now we will be sure to spread the word!! At this point, if you are looking at a Subaru, do not go to the Walser dealership in Burnsville.!

I would not recommend this dealer.

My Husband and I visited Walser after visiting Morries in Mtka Subaru and Ford (I will not shop Morries again). All staff at Walser was friendly and low pressure. This was our 3rd dealership to visit we test drove a Forestor and Outback when we came to the dealership we wanted new but wasnt sure we could afford it. After speaking with Kevin and Managment we left to think things over and visit a few other dealerships. We went back 5 days later and purchased a new outback one of our best car shopping exp. yet. I also checked 5 other dealerships online Walser had them all beat by at least 1700.

By jacksan1 on 11/12/2012 at 8:14 PM. Helped by Josh Pahl and Shawn Nesbitt.

My wife and I bought an Outback from Josh and Shawn, and had great fun doing so, which is not the typical way we describe dealing with car dealerships. At Walser Subaru, the focus on customer service, which is too often a cliche and not a reality, was evident from the beginning to the end. When we first entered this dealership's building, we noticed something different immediately. The staff were all right there, the first step through the door through which we entered. This was completely different from the usual car dealership model with which a receptionist sits at a desk and gets someone to help you by paging or calling. At Walser Subaru, such process was completely unnecessary. We were at once greeted and introduced to our salesperson, Josh. Josh clearly knew his stuff. I have been a long-term Subaru enthusiast, so find it easy to distinguish those (few) sales people who know what they are talking about. Josh was one of those. But it was also commendable that Josh did not act to display his knowledge in an ostentatious manner, which, unfortunately, too often happens among sales professionals who know a lot. The way Josh handled our transaction was that he would respond to our questions and comments accurately, and never forced without solicitation his great knowledge upon my wife and me. And because he knew his stuff, it was quite nice to have an intelligent conversation about the car we were looking at which, by the way, is not always an easy experience to have at car dealerships. His manager, Shawn, was always nearby and rendering immediate assistance to us whenever we needed him (instead of hiding in an office somewhere else). It was obvious that his enthusiasm rubbed off on other staff members at Walser Subaru. There was much energy in the place. And it was clear that, not only both Josh and Shawn knew the cars, but do they also love Subaru. Josh knew every story about and development at Subaru that I could bring up, which is not something one would unless you really cared about the brand and its products. And when I spotted on the showroom floor a restored Subaru 360, which I was delighted to see after not having seen one for at least 45 years, Shawn told me, with obvious joy, all about how this 360 came to be at Walser Subaru, and all other stories associated with it. Needless to say, we had so much fun just chatting away with these true Subaru enthusiasts! All of this would be for naught, however, if the actual sales transaction was not beneficial to us. We had done our research on the pricing, and knew that the Walser price was right. With the no negotiation (translation: no game) policy, we received the right deal on our Outback with a minimum of efforts. Not only that, we received more than a fair deal on our trade, which is where dealerships are too often known to make up for the "deals" they give away. Not so at Walser Subaru. My wife and I enthusiastically recommend Walser Subaru to anyone in the area who is looking for a pleasant car buying experience. Try them even if you are not thinking about a Subaru. Maybe you will change your mind.

I would recommend this dealer.

My wife and I needed to get an awd vehicle before winter due to purchasing a new home that is up a steep hill. We were in no rush but really wanted to check out the forester after seeing reviews on it in the snow and steep hill climbs. Josh and Joe were very helpful and provided all the info we needed for a trade in and a new lease. The numbers came out better than I expected and we left the next day with a brand new forester. It is a great place to buy a vehicle, I can't wait to stop back in for free car washes. This is our First Subaru...awaiting winter.

I had done my research, was ready for a battle over price and trade-in. Wasn't even sure I was going to buy a new car. But my anticipated battle never occurred. Torey introduced me to Harry the Outback expert. Walser's price was in the range of Consumer Report bottom line pricing. Walser's estimate on trade-in matched my research on Edmunds and Kelly Blue Book. My salesperson Harry was very informative on the specifics of the model I selected. Harry and Torey did a great job educating me on my options and packages available making my selection clear. Managers were helpful and prompt with the paperwork. Going out of their way to get the vehicle I wanted in a timely fashion. Probably the most pain free and pleasant experience I've had purchasing a vehicle. Thank you, Torey, Harry and all the staff at Burnsville Walser Subaru.
